So does the new bracket go under the tranny or on top right under the shifter cables?

It's on top under the shifter cables. Sparks Toyota will send you pictures and directions of the install. And as far as I have found, then have the best price.

You'll find the plate if you follow the shift cable to where the TWO cables come together side by side and are held stationary.

There are two bolts which are kind of difficult to get to (from either top or bottom) but you can get a sense of where they are by reaching to the back of the plate from the top (you have to remove BOT cables to get at them.

I got it when I bought the car. Wife is trying to oppress my modding habits, so I had them throw it in on the slick.

Having the dealer do this job before you take delivery is the way to go.

NEVER have the dealer do the TRD exhaust - it's just two bolts and an extra hanger.

I'm too cheap to pay the dealer to do this. I just had them throw the cost of the part in the deal. I'm asking all these questions so I can do it. Hell I figured I put a supercharger on a tc I can put on a ssk.

It's definitely doable - even easy - just a PITA.

I did it inside of an hour.

I swapped out the old mount with the new TRD aluminum mount this morning. And I must say the shifts do feel much smoother. Without the plate there was a noticiable bind going on between shifts. I'm sure there would be cable problems in the future using the old mount.

Well there you go. We're on the same page. My shifts are indeed smoother than without the plate swap.

You get what you pay for. I've noticed silence from the normally vocal NST folks.

I also installed mine this afternoon. The TRD instructions said there was a wiring bracket that was bolted to the back of the stock shifter bracket, but mine did not have one. Did anyone elses xD not have this wiring bracket? I only had to remove the two 14mm bolts and replaced the shifter bracket with the trd one. Man there's really a difference in the distance between shifts. I really like the TRD ssk.

For folks who haven't done the job, you'll see which removals make sense as you travel through the process. There are a couple of removals which simply help the clearances while working the wrench. Nothing is complicated or difficult - you simply need to break the bracket nuts free - once they are free, the removal is easy.

The full process is worth the effort. You"ll have smoother shifts / less wear on the cables and linkage / a Toyota engineered product. The difference is significant.

I did this install today because I was too cheap to pay the dealership $150. It was a real PITA and there was more than a few occasions where I was going to throw in the towel. This thread has a lot of good info on how to complete the job. In the end I was able to do it myself. I did take a short road test and it’s totally worth it. Shifting is stiff right now but it is short. So now I have done the SSK and the rear sway bar for a little over $300 so I saved a good amount of money compared to what Scion wants for these parts.

I'm currently doing the install right now and I can't seem to get the clips, off the cable ends to save the life of me...any suggestions? (this is for the realignment of the cable ended with the TRD ssk)

You need to grab the clips with pliers and rock them left and right as you pull up. If you grab them and try to pull them straight up you will lose that fight.

So you were able to get the job done? I'm not going to lie I was close the throwing in the towel and take it to my mechanic. I would strongly recommend getting the shifter bushings from Dr. Isotope they are well worth the $28.

Yeah it was a bit harder than I thought it would be. Looking back, I should have gotten the bushings, but the shift feels tons better than before.
