Audio Fade question?
I haven't noticed anything odd like that with my xD yet, but I had a similar issue when I got my 2004 xA. I fixed it by changing the audio mode by holding down the SSP button for a couple seconds. There you can set the audio for the different models, xA, xB, tC, xD. Each one uses the speakers differently. My xA was set on xB and there was a huge difference when I finally figured out to change that.
Because I was ready for it, the first thing I did with the stereo on my new xD was check it and sure enough it was set to something besides xD. I don't know why that wasn't made more obvious because I could see many people being unsatisfied with the sound and never figuring that out. It was just luck that I finally caught that bit in the manual and realized the importance of what it was saying.
Hopefully that will be your problem as well!
