Can't shift out of Park..
Trying to help my buddy with his 2010 Scion xD it also is stuck in Park. I read that it could be the brake light switch so I replaced that and it did nothing at first then after a few minutes of the car running the ECU seemed to reset and it worked and seemed to be fixed but after 2-3 hours of driving
the car around he turned it off and the same exact problem came back?! So that’s where we’re at now. Sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t. Every time it does the ecu does it’s thing where the dash goes blank all the gauges go crazy and it works! Until he turns the car off again.
I’ve also read it could be the shifter interlock solenoid???
Please help. Guy has a baby on the way needs his car ASAP.

Based upon the above and it not being the brake switch, I'd venture to guess there is a short somewhere and when it shorts it's blanking the dash and messing-up the gauges. I'd start chasing it from the brake light switch 'up' but that one isn't going to be fun to find.
