I have the Scion 18" rims on the car now and heading into the winter I am wondering if I should/need to get a set of 15" or 16" rims? Are 18" really that bad for mileage/safety(winter)? Thanks for the thoughts

 

I run my 17's all year, but I did get all season tires so that helps.

 

its not the size of the tire, its the type of tire. you might see ppl putting their steelies back on come winter, but its cause they put snow tires on them and kept their high preformance tires on their aftermarket rims.

 

the smaller wheel will also help the tire spin a bit faster especially in cases of getting plowed in. If you have the steelies still, i'd just throw some snow tires on em and call it a day, a lot cheaper then getting a whole new set unless ur truly worried about looks

 

and salt/sand is disasterous on certain rims :o

 

Get some 15" steelies and put some Blizzaks on 'em. If strapped for cash, then put some "All-Season" tires on 'em. You'll be OK... :D

 

pick up someones stock 16" rims. the tires are fine on those for winter driving. can hang with the subie's too in the snow
