Default 2009 XD Automatic Transmission.

Does it have the tiptronic like the camry/avalon/matrix/xB automatics? Just wondering.

Nope..if you want the thrill of driving a 5-speed, get a 5 speed, or pay the money for the cars that have it.

Cost aside, is there a reason Scion/Toyota can't fit the XD with the tiptronic? That's one thing I really did like about the XB.

I think the xD is meant to be the entry car to the Scion line up more than anything. Plus they probably didn't put it on the car since they didn't know how it would do in our market. Look at the xA sales, they didn't sell too well at all. Maybe down the road they will add an option for it, dunno.

When I spoke with my sales rep, she mentioned that Scoin didn't put it on the XD due to the lack of performance potential with the smaller engine.

I don't understand that logic at all?

Even a small output engine will benefit from a crisper shift and more selection in gear ranges.

Maybe it was the cost?

i would assume cost. the cost of an 09 xd with higher deleivry charge now and increase off 100 dolars puts it at still a great money for the car. i think adding the shifting would make it expensive enouigh people think twice. but i would agree on cost.

Honestly there is not a huge difference between the shifttronic and gated shifter, they perform essentialy the same...taking just as long to shift/downshift. Upshifts are not swift by any means, better for downshifting.

The system is by no means a VW DSG, or BMW SMG. Only until Toyota/Scion makes one would I think about buying an auto.
