we're not going to get the urban cruiser or ist designs because the xD's design is to conform to US safety restrictions.
Its market segment is quickly becoming overinflated with competition and the yaris is its own worse enemy due to most people seeing an extra 2-3 digits on the mpg estitmates from the dealer. Only people I see buying them lately is older folks who tend to be a little bit wiser on what theyre purchasing. xD is cheaper then a fully loaded Yaris and has most of the same options stock with more horsepower. To me this was a no brainer but the typical consumers saw different I guess.
I think if they just given the xD macphersons in the rear and maybe brakes and sell it around the same price as the xB they would of had something.

You mean double wishbone(macpherson struts are up front only) like in the tc, matrix and 'rolla xrs? Couldn't agree more and the xb2 should also have the tc's double wishbone rear. I really don't see why they can't use the urban cruiser/ist bumper cover.

That being said I love the xD and if something happened to my tC I would be rocking a manual xD(if i could find one)

The Urban Cruiser and the ist are not different cars than the xD. Yes, they have different plastic bits on the body and different engine options, but they are the same car. They would not even have to go through separate crash testing. The AWD model might have to, though. The biggest problem is getting the different engine options. To my knowledge, Toyota does not senn the 1.33L gas engine or the 1.4L turbodiesel in any vehicle in the US, so they would have to go through emissions testing. The turbodiesel would most likely need a particulate trap and NOx scrubbing urea injection. Those are not needed in Europe, because they are more interested in low CO2 emissions, whereas the US is more interested in low NOx emissions.

As far as the MPGs, yes... the Yaris does get better fuel economy than the xD. A lot of people are primarily interested in fuel economy, and for a car sold in the US, the Yaris does pretty well. It is lighter than the xD and has a smaller engine.

I think the xD has a decent balance between power and fuel economy. If I had to give up anything, I'd give up a little power in favor of MPGs. I did feel better about towing with the 1.8L engine, though.

Also, I see where you are going with the suspension, brakes, etc. However, this would all add cost to the car. Just look at most of the competition... you'll see that most of them have drum brakes in the rear and similar torsion bar rear suspensions. Cars with fully independent rears and disc brakes tend to cost a little more. You can't blame them for wanting to stay competitive with the cost. After all, the xD would not sell well if it were priced like a Lancer, Mazda 3, or Rabbit.

Toyota does not care that much about the Scion brand, Toyota would shut the brand itself down before giving it the FT-86.

Never said the car, was referring to the bumper design in the front

Wow, I thought I was the only one: Taste is subjective, but I think the Toyota ist looks like a shrunken Acura RDX, and the Urban Land Cruiser looks utterly ridiculous, since it's marketed as a tiny SUV. Those wheels are okay, though.

Maybe it's just pride, but I like the xD's looks since it looks a little different than Toyota's recent products, yet an evolutionary step form the xA. Even if it looks like a cross between an angular version of a '99 Renault Clio Sport and a squashed monorail car.

That may be true. I didn't know the bumper was different. I figured that only the plastic cover was unique to the Urban Cruiser.

appearance.

Vehicle height has been adjusted and the front and rear shock absorbers have been tuned for
improved handling.

Interior door armrest fabric color changes to black and silver, and a new ornamentation color has
been adopted for the instrument panel center cluster, door switch panel, steering wheel base, and

I'm assuming that means the spoiler is painted the same color as the car.

GracieLu where did you get your information from? Thanks...

Vehicle height has been adjusted? Hmmm, wonder if it sits a bit lower...? Haven't been able to find any info on the amazon green being available on the xd. Where did you get that part from, GracieLu? Does anyone have any pics of the amazon green? I know it's available on the land cruiser, but can't find any pics. I did find some pics of the new interior and it's pretty nice: http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/s...1&id=E39C23480

The way it a was quoted I thought it was something new for 2011, I was about to say all spoilers are color matched from the factory already lol.

Toyota is not known for upgrading their performance numbers on a regular basis, that is probably still 2 to 3 years down the road.

Noooooooo they're getting rid of SSM?!

Maybe they're going to offer a new spoiler over the current one (which sucks imo).

I'm curious as to how the 2011 will look with the new colors, but if and when they fix the turning radius that will be a big plus.

Aftermarket companies won't be offering much for the xDs seeing as most people buy it as a grocery getter and not to modify the car, so they don't see much profit in it. Even if all the owners that were interested in getting more parts made emailed the crap out of a few companies, I doubt they'd want to take the chance right now.

One thing kinda get me here, why are so many people complaining about the mods for the xD? Besides major engine mods their is a lot of stuff you can do to these cars.

The 1.4L diesel is NOT turboed (90hp). And the AWD system is not full time. The car is 100 percent FWD with a lockable rear diff to make it 50-50 only in certain road conditions. If there was some way to get the diff to stay in AWD all the time then it would be worth it.
