Default 30 thousand mile service

Need some advice on the 30k service. What needs to be done? Looking at our maintenance guide all that’s needed is an oil and filter change, tire rotation and inspection of other parts. Is that all that’s needed? If it is I will just do it myself!

My dealer ship wants to charge $300 plus for the 30k service and they said spark plugs, Trans fluid and fuel filter need to be changed also. The maintenance guide dose not say anything about changing the spark plugs, Trans fluid and fuel filter at 30k. I can change all these things for myself also but I don’t know if they need to be changed at 30k or not. Please let me know if you have done this. Thanks!

If it is not in the manual then the dealer is trying to scam you...that is kinda of their job.

Follow the manual. I can see no reason to change the tranny fluid at 30k. Looks like the dealer is trying to generate some more income by recommending unnecessary service.

On another note I'm surprised, the xD even has a fuel filter. Most newer vehicles I have worked on do not even have a secondary filter.

Curious... are you sure they were talking about the fuel filter and not the trans filter? The only trans I'm familiar with that needs a fluid change at 30k is the VW/Audi DSG trans... which is really a self-shifting manual more than an automatic. Actually, the factory calls for a 40k service interval, but some people are having issues, so now they recommend 30k. The fluid ain't cheap, either.

I never take my car to dealership I can do most of the maintenance myself. Was just thinking I would get someone to look over the car that knows more than I do. When I was told the cost I knew something was up.

CXTKRS1: I believe most cars do still have fuel filters of some type in the fuel tank they just don’t use the old school in line fuel filter anymore.

mcbrew: I was told fuel filter by the service department I think they gave me the list of everything that’s usually done on the 30k service but not what’s specifically done for the XD but I was probably still going to get charged $300 weather my car need all that stuff done or not. That’s some BS.

I was going to change the stuff the dealer said by myself but now I wont even bother since it dose not say it in our maintenance guide.

Page 7 of the scheduled maintenance guide (2008 Scion XD) indicates Replace engine air filter, engine oil and filter and rotate tires. The rest is just INSPECTING things - which the dealer will try to charge you an excessive amount for. Just use the maintenance guide and you'll be fine.
