All kinds of sounds! Any from your Hatch?

Jeesh, I just had septoplasty that might hurt! I'm gonna go bother them tomorrow, if my gauge cluster is completed and back in the car... I'll see what they have to say...
As for ice... I don't even think about looking to see if it's melted until March around here!

hahaha yeah...that would be quite favorable. oh and...i just commented on the other forum and completely forgot to reply to yours but....MAN...too bad i dont live near you. not only could i be making dough, but i'd be more than willing to help you out with soldering. it takes a couple tries, but when you get right once or twice, a light turns on and it's like "oh...i understand completely now!" just keep practicing! it's a very good skill to have, and it's loads of fun :D haha

I haven't noticed any rattles yet, but I only have 2000 miles on it and it is sitting in the garage for the Winter...I will be looking for them in the Spring, but with a TRD exhaust and subbox in the back, I probably won't notice too much...lol. It CAN'T rattle like my 20 YO Escort does.....

I think I have this issue. It appeared when I installed my TRD springs (in conjunction with the rear sway bar.) Does it ever get any better? It doesn't happen all the time, and only on minor bumps at slow speeds where the body offsets a little (ie taking a speed bump at a diagonal or over to one side) it's driving me nuts!

Asurjc - are you sure its not the rear progressive trd springs making the noise? I installed my trd springs then heard a clunking noise. I purchased and installed spring isolators (expensive for shipping) and no more noise.

ramrat - It could quite possibly be the rear springs. It seems to me that the rear spring area is precisely where the noises are coming from. I even took them out and put petroleum jelly on the bottom and top rubber bushings to see if that helped to no avail. So what are spring isolators and what do they do?

others here suggested temporarly putting tape like electrical tape around the tightly wound coil springs to see if the noise stopped.
I purchased whiteline spring isolators - all it does is a thin plastic wrap that wraps around the coils. Some non trd springs brands come with them (trd's did not).
I have gone over a lot of rough road here in CA after installing them and my springs have been silent afterwards.
best to try the tape test first too see if thats your problem or not.

go down 3/4 of the way to "Silence Noisy Coils"
to get an idea of what the coil wraps are.

ramrat - you were right on man! The coil isolators you linked to looked an awful lot like some spiral cable wrap (you know, for organizing your stereo/tv cables) that I saw while I was at the home depot on Saturday. For $2.49 I figured 'what the heck?' They come packaged in two 3.5 foot sections that I just wrapped around the top tightly wound coils (leaving the part of the spring that actually seats exposed. It works great! My rear coils are as silent as church mice now. This, along with finally discovering where to shove some foam to kill my pop-out cup holder rattle, has my car going over bumps as solid as new. Here's what I bought (though mine were black) Thanks again!

Once you have the glove box out you can lie on your back and peer up at the cup-holder cassette. Thump on it with your hand to make sure it's the same rattle you've been hearing. If it is, get some foam weatherstripping from home depot (3/4" x 1/2" the same size works great for the defrost vents too) cut 2 pieces equal to the width of the cassette and stick them together, then sandwich your piece of foam in the area right below the cassette (you can barely fit your finger in the space) between bottom of the cassette and the inside bottom of the upper dash. If yours is the same rattle, this should solve it.

this thread has opened my eyes, lol. when i first bought my xD i had no issues, but now any bass out of my radio = hella rattle over there near the slide-out cup holder. i thought it was my speakers my doors up front also seem to have a small issue with rattle.

For mine, the whole cassette was rattling in it's mounting behind the dash. It sounded more like the buzz you get when you pluck a plastic ruler that you're holding the short end of against a table top(bad analogy but I think you know what I mean). Over about 2 months, I stuffed no end of foam pipe wrap cut into little bits all around where the fold down part contacts the upper part too with no luck. What I ended up doing was to take out the lower glove box (for those who don't know, with the glove box open just squeeze the left and right sides toward the center to get the two rear tabs past the back of the lower dash and un-hook the little motion limiter on the lower right and then the whole "tub" can be removed)

Speaking of noises... does anyone else have license plate rattle? They have started making the MD license plates thinner in recent years, and mine rattles when I take off from a stop. I am disappointed that the xD only has screws for the top holes on the rear plate. I tried to use stick-on bumpers behind the bottom of the plate, but they aren't thick enough. I might actually drill for bottom screws.
