Am I crazy? (Question about SNS)
Hi. I am new to this place. I recently got a 09 in Super White with the Smoke Colored TRD Wheels (I will post pics after I clean it up.)
I have the Scion Navigation System (SNS). Can the SNS be used by someone else if it were to be stolen?
I made a little cover that has a picture of a regular radio. If someone walks by and peeks in, do you think they would buy this? Or should I not worry?

Without cover...

What do you think?

I will be tinting the windows very soon.
No. That is real. I wanted to have some kind of cover for it. The more I thought about what the cover should look like, I thought a decoy was the way to go. So I searched google images for car stereo. That was one of the first pics that popped up. So I printed it, put it on some poster board. There is even a little poster board bracket that goes around the SNS. So when I park I pop it on.
I guess I'm a little paranoid as my old car was broken into (and stolen) last summer, and I'm not worried about this car being stolen, I don't want the SNS to disappear.

I have 1 on my tc, but i dont have the cover on mine so you can see it, But i never seen any1 trying to break into my car yet... **knock on wood... But i got legal tints but it don't really help. Just be careful where you park your car...
The only reason I don't think a thief would buy that fake cover is because the display looks like it's on, while the car is off
I'm with you though, I'm very paranoid about people breaking into my car. Which is why I'm not big on adding any fancy interior mods.

I will be tinting the windows in a few weeks. I know a few of my old cars had warnings that the stereos would not work once removed from the car. Therefore thieves knew they were worthless if stolen. But I have not found anything that says the SNS would not work if removed. Hopefully thieves value the portable navis more than the installed versions as they are easier to unload.
I would have to be really, and I mean really, drunk to believe that...
I hate to put it this way but putting a towel over it or any other device/cover aside from something that is factory makes it stand out more... a thief would see that you are hiding something and break in just to see what your hiding...
you should spring the money for an alarm... you can always have the dealer install the Scion alarm...

Look at your state tint limit to see how dark you can go. Hopefully they're more lax than California, where our limit is practically non existant.
Also, get an alarm. If you were duped in to the Scion "alarm" system, sorry, but thats a waste of money right there. I didn't know it was a waste till after I had signed for my car

cause it is a sound based alarm... There is a microphone in the dash, and 99% of the time it can't hear the glass being broken, so your stuff is gone by the time it MIGHT go off... And on top of that if it does go off all it does is blow the horn and flash the lights.
There is no preventative alarm that they offer. It doesn't have a starter cutoff, it doesn't shut itself off, nothing. Just honks the horn and flashes the lights.
The effect you get is a poorly designed rave...

Tints actually invite criminals to steal your ice. The tint acts like a web capturing the glass and softening the impact sound. Alarm is the only way to go unless you wanna leave a dog in your car.
You know what might work better: Ever seen those cling stickers that look like broken glass? Put one of them on your NAV screen when you leave the car. A would-be thief might think that the screen is cracked and not bother with it.
