Ooo...you get that booming sound, too? It's a pretty impressive bass for such a small car!

Yup same here has something to do with having a hatchback and all that air traveling to the back. Never owned another hatchback to know if that’s normal or not. The most I put the back windows down are halfway in my car

are you talking about "wind throb"?

just an aerodynamic thingamabob... where the resonant frequency of the air volume inside the cabin matches the air passing over the car and into the window... creating pretty much a standing wave inside (oooooh science!)

i can assume it happens to every car... but it does require certain conditions for it to happen.

happens on my accord. i think you are right. it has happened in just about every car I've driven in.

Happens to most every 4 door when you roll the windows down in the rear only. Well every 4 door I have driven anyways.

yah... i've gotten it in my tC as well... not sure what conditions I had it at, but i think for the tC it's one window down and the moonroof open? *shrug*

not sure.. but yea... certain condtions will cause wind throb to happen. but it's nothing to be concerned about.

just open another window or slightly close another and it'll go away.

Well, what I'm talking about is almost painful --- like too much pressure in the inner ear. Wind throb?

uhm.. the cabin just resonates at a low frequency.

Hmmmm ... I think that's very interesting. LOL --- now I have to go do it again!
Not air pressure, eh? So maybe like a sitting inside a subwoofer cabinet? I wonder how low the note is?

The funny part about this is that my fiance noticed this "wind throb" effect today and it looked like her head was about to explode. This is the first hatchback I have ever owned however I have ridden in several and have never noticed this effect. It must be a scion thing. Thats ok I love my Scion anyway.

pretty much every 4 door car/suv does it. my mazda3 did it, my moms jeep does it, my wifes cobalt does it... its no different then blowing over an empty bottle to make it whistle... just a much lower frequency because of the much larger volume of the car.

I learned about this when I first bought the car lol Now I drive with my front windows down more than the rear which helps to keep the thudding at a minimum. Oh well. I guess they didn't wind tunnel this car as long as they should have.

[edit] wow am I tired..

I wondered if that was the same principle. Thanks.
