I would go through the dealer. The touch up paint I bought was only $7.

I've stopped looking at the front of my car since I know there will be new rock chips no matter what.

I'm with you guys. I park far out and on an end, or island, if at all possible.

I was at a local resturaunt a few weeks back. Parked far out. Plenty of spots in the lot. A huge Ford 350 truck parked so close to my driver's door, that I had to crawl in thru the passenger's side to get in the driver's seat. I was so mad~

Obviously, there was not a passenger in the truck as they would not have been able to get out due to it being parked so close.

I was very tempted to go back in and ask for the owner of the truck to come out, but did not. Instead, left a nice note on his truck asking where did he learn to park and of all the places in the lot.. etc.. and told him to go back to the county he came from. He was from OH, but different county. GRRR..

Thankfully, no dent that day.

If it starts to crack, be sure to go to Safelite Auto Glass and have it filled. It's a lot cheaper than a new windshield. I did this with my mustang and you can barely tell it was cracked. It looks like a tiny waterspot. A new OEM windshield was over $600. Cost to fill tiny crack, $70.

Sorry to hear about all your problems.

I just got done washing my car and guess what?

I found a pin-head sized nick out of the paint 1 cm left of the front hood scion logo. It got me a little depressed, but hey...it was gonna happen sooner or later : /

As for touch up paint on an xD RS 1.0...would a shop like napa or autozone have the right color for touch up paint on hot lava? Or do I have to go through the dealer?

thanks.
If you go to this site: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ and in the search field, type 4R8 (paint code for hot lava/RS 1.0) they will bring up the options for size and qty of touch up paint. Dont be alarmed if it shows a early year toyota, it is the same color. Automotive Touch up just hasn't updated it's color list for the 08 XD's

this is a link to my only booboo so far with the car.

I guess on the bright side though if I get my car back I wont have any rock chips or screw holes in the front bumper.

First week I bought it some jackass just tapped the side of my rear bumper in a parking lot. Hit and run I guess. Took off some paint on it too, but some touch up paint worked fine. Can't even tell now.

3rd day of ownership someone dented my fender.

Paint is very cheap on the XD. This is the biggest disappointment so far.

Blame the EPA standards of the paint, not what Scion uses. But yes, the paint IS cheap and it's so aggravating.

I bet she's really regretting it now. Her insurance must have gone through the roof

Sounds like mine, (link posted earlier) except mine was my fault.
The total for mine was just over $9K. Hopefully i'll get it back later this week, the body shop said they were waiting for the radiator to come in so they could finish putting it back together.

yeah, i was really surprised they didn't total it. but it could be because my car was only a month old when it got hit. guess it didn't depreciate much

Whan they told me the repair estimate I figured it would be totaled since mine is a year old and has almost 35K miles on it. According to my insurance company though book value is only one of the factors used to determine when they deem a vehicle 'totaled'.

I know I don't have an xD but it's similar with the xB.

1) rock flew up off a car next to us, dang near took out mt GFs fingers and put a dent right below the door handle
2) asphault puck flew up on the highway and left hella big chip in my windshield-company that was doing the road work paid for it through their insurance though-it took me a lot of photos and phone calls to get it done though
3) front bumper has lots of rock chips, scrapes including 1 I did when I dropped the aluminum grill
4) weird shallow dent on pass door, but is coated with black that won't come off my car
5) nice gouge in rear bumper from futon transporting
6) weird chip and scrape in windshield pillar from rock on highway (must have hit really hard to do it)
7) about 30 little rock chips in windshield that is about a year old
two different areas where bird poo ruined the paint, when I went to wash it off it was already scratched from it and when I tried to buff it out the dullness still stayed there even though the poo was gone

only thing ive had happen was my own fault:

was out on my deck cutting slate for my kitchen, and the water from the wet saw (loaded with powdered slate) somehow managed to drip under the deck, run along the underside of it for the entire length, and drip onto the top of the car... didnt notice until the next day after it had dried like a concrete, and let me tell you, that is one of the scariest things to try and wash off of the car without sanding the paint clean off.
