alright. so i went behind the glovebox (taking it out was a real pain in the a**)

followed some dyi on scionlife, bought a huge filter for 12 bucks, cut down to 7 by 8 stretched, inserted into the slot... but is it supposed to just sloppily sit there (its not heavy so part of it is just floating)

and metal part up?

 

am i supposed to keep the cardboard connected to the filter?

 

Sorry I can't really understand what your saying. After the glovebox is off, u lift the white accordian looking cover and place the filter there. close it and but the glove box back on

the filter was originally attached to this cardboard thing. which i ripped it off of.

I left the cardboard strips on the backside of the filter to keep it stiff. I believe the metal side faces the ground, not up.

 

i thought you could get the filter from dealerships for free? and if not free, the toyota one would have been direct fit anyway. the cardboard is there for stability, and as zefoxe said, you just take off the cover and slide it in

since its only there to make the filter rigid, you'll be fine. i think it'll work okay, as long as you really stuffed the filter up in there haha

 

r u saying the xD doesnt come with a cabin air filter? Huh? I'm confoozed

 

the scion xD does not come with a cabin air filter (its one of the things you learn when youre on scionlife too much )

 

also when you get curious and start taking things apart :D....but yes, unless your dealer decided to place cabin filters in for you, for each xD thats sold, the xD doesnt come w/ a cabin air filter...its quite bewildering..

 

I find it really stupid that it doesn't come with one, or that they don't even offer you one when purchasing the car. Having a DIY one in my xD honestly helps with my allergies and dirt in my car. Stupid of them to not even tell you. Letting us find out ourselves... ridiculous!

 

agreed...come to think of it...i should go pick something up...lol..i may have seen that i didnt have one, but i never did anything about it..
i guess their intention is to save weight?

has anyone noticed if the cabin air filter reduced the airflow of AC/Heat? I'd hate to put one in and see a drop in my air flow blow, ya know, to slow is a no go. Ho ho ho.

I will be inquiring about this at my dealer today whilst i'm there for new tires.

Oddly, it IS standard equipment for xDs sold in Puerto Rico. No idea why.

(they're saving a good bunch even though its so subtle...for example...i think by removing an olive out of every salad on an airline...they managed to save millions a year. )
