Fuel System Cleaner

Fuel System Cleaner
Hello all, here's a question, don't judge me!
When would you know that you need to use a fuel system cleaner on your car?
How exactly do you use it/ when do you use it?
I hear things like before long trips before you fill up tank, every other fill up?
How much to use on the car and what kind would you recommend?
Thank you!

when would you know? you don't really...
you just make up a routine... perhaps on how many miles you've driven.. make it up.. and use whatever products you want.. though i'd stay away from the STP stuff. do a little research and search a bit.. people discussed about these things many times before.
I think for the most part, i haven't seen anything bad, and have heard that the Chevron Techron stuff works really well. Follow the directions on the bottle.

First off majority of the people who own vehicles never run an ounce of cleaner through them and never have any problems with said vehicle. If you still want to run a cleaner through the car then I recommend RedLine SL-1 and use say roughly every 25000 miles.

there are two types of FI cleaner. One is solvent based which can be hard on certain gaskets and diaphragms in the fuel system. These are very effective but should be used sparingly. The other is detergent based such as Redline and Lucas. These can be used often and won't deteriorate sensitive components in the system. The detergent based products work very well especially when used on a regular basis..
Solvent based products should be used as close to an oil change as possible since they do get mixed some with the oil thru the combustion process.
I use redline FI cleaner a couple of times a year.
