Default Help me...I know jack squat about wheels.

I have been looking at wheels for two days now, and I am no closer to understanding what the heck I am supposed to be looking for. I am not going to lower my xD, so I was thinking of sticking with 16" wheels and using the stock tires to save money until I need to replace them. I just can't see spending more money on tires right now while I have four brand new ones on the car.

My questions...

1. Should I be looking for spoke style racing wheels, or chromed out "tribal" design wheels, or what? I know, there is a lot of personal preference involved here, but I don't want to buy a set of wheels that I think are cool looking, and then have people snicker and point at my car wherever I go.

2. I know the measurements for the stock wheels on the xD are 16x6J, 39 offset, and 5-100 lugs. But I can't find a wheel that has those exact measurements. I can find a 16x6 with a 38 offset, or 16x7 with a 40 offset but never the perfect combination. What am I missing here? How far off can the numbers be and the tires still fit the wheels?

3. I don't need the best wheels ever made, so I don't want to spend $2000 on a set of four rims. But I don't want to buy dollar store rims either. I have seen very low priced wheels from SportMax. What is the quality factor on these? Are affordable and respectable possible in one wheel?

I know, I am out of my league here. I just don't want to waste a ton of money when I could buy the right rims (for me) the first time. Can someone point me down the path of enlightenment?

With 16x6 wheel you can go as low as 35 offset with no issues. Don't go above 39 unless you really love the wheels - higher offset will push the wheels deeper inside the body - not the prettiest sight, honestly.

Besides looking at offset and design, keep wheel weight in mind. The lighter the wheel - the better. Light wheels will improve both acceleration and braking. For a 16x6 don't go above 18lbs I'd say, but you can easily find a 15lbs wheel in this size.

Honestly, you should've opted for the factory 16s if you are not planning to move up in size, at least you would've saved money and trouble of remounting your TPMS sensors.

If I had opted for the factory wheels, I would have the same look as everyone else who bought factory wheels. Isn't the whole point of buying wheels in the first place, to set my car apart from the rest? On top of that, they would have been financed.

If I buy wheels online and have them shipped, how much should I pay to have a tire shop mount and install?

Is a tire shop going to know how to move the TPMS sensors?
