Default Help! Is my steering wheel bent?

Bought a xD earlier this year and have been thrilled with it.

Last week I got rear-ended by this guy who totally wasn't paying attention.

Damage: Rear bumber (and mount) had to be replaced. Steering column plastic cowl was out of place. Air bags didnt go off, but the sensor did need to be reset. Frame was fine.

Took it to the dealer and got it all fixed and back in my hands by tuesday. However, I don't think the wheel got fixed. Can anyone help? The proof I have is the bottom "arm" of the wheel (where you operate the horn from) seems higher and not flush with the wheel. Is this how it should be or is my wheel bent? The car seems to steer fine, but I think (and this could totally be in my head) if I turn wide and then let the wheel spin to correct itself, as the wheel passes through my hand it feels like it is not level.

Yeah something doesn't sound right. Being rear-ended and your steering wheel being bent don't relate accident wise (unless you were hit really hard and into something like a curb).

Good luck but I doubt your insure company will pay for it.

Well, i've got some great insurance actually AND it was the other guys fault so technically he will be paying for it.

I didn't hit any thing in front of me so I agree that the two don't make sense but something is defintely up with the wheel. The fact the column cowl was disloged makes me think something is up with it. It may not be actually bent, but the wheel itself may be not set correctly on the column (which is why I think it is bent and the horn cowl seems raised up)

I think im gonna run by the dealer on my way home and take a look at one on the lot and see what its supposed to look like.

How much was the estimate for the damages? Get the body shop to look at it and see what they say.

I deal with insurance claims all day and something like that would be really hard to prove that it was accident related. Especially if you said there was no frame damage. Hopefully I'm wrong and your insurance carrier takes care of it for you.

I can honestly say I have no idea what your talking about. Are you talking about the airbag cover?

yah, the airbag cover. Same place you hit the horn. I went by the dealer last night and looked at the xDs on the lot and there is something wrong with mine.

There is no way this wasn't caused by anything but the accident. Calling my insurance today and going to go from there.

airbag should be replaced if it was an accident of +20 mph even if it didnt fully deploy

An airbag wouldn't deploy if you were rear-ended.
