Default iPod jack sound quality is awesome. MP3 jack sounds like I'm in a tin can

So I recently had a friend in the car and for the first time I hooked up a non iPod to my car with the 3.5mm connection. Man did it sound horrible. Even when I plugged in the iPod using the headphone jack it sounded like I was in a tin can. Does anyone else have a similar experience? Any ideas how to fix?

get a monster cable twin aux ended cable, the aux cable toyota supplies uses cheap wire, ipod wire uses top quality wiring to make sure ipod is the win in sound comparison

I work at a Scion dealership. My cable works okay, but my girlfriends cable only worked in one speaker when she connected her ipod by cable. I grabbed a new cable from a new scion and it was all better. Your cable sucks, just go buy a nice one from best buy or the shack.

Also, you might have to set the EQ and treble/bass properly. Each sourch keeps its own settings.

I'll play around with it and get a better cable and will report back my results.
