Default just bought my 2010 xd today

just bought my 2010 xd today ,

why is it that i'm getting 21.6 MPG ( have used up 5/8 of the tank )
and which octane should i put in the car?

octane 87 or 89?

the worst part is my price is $ 23000

base price 16525 + tax = 18500 + 6y/7500 mile warranty program( $2500 ), + tax for that also, + 5 y finance fee = $23000

I'd consider getting a refund on the warranty. Never heard of anybody needing it. It's just pure profit for the dealer. Please list the dealer you bought from so I know never to got there. What is this finance fee you are referring to? Did you have to go with some kind of subprime financing because of poor credit or?
As far as your mileage goes, do you have an auto or man trans? If it's auto make sure you are actually putting the trans in drive. The shifter is kind of goofy with its sideways movement and can be confusing.
87 octane fuel is fine.

Sorry, please see my edited post.

Please ditch the warranty, it's one of the few things you can reverse on the deal. You may want to use some of that money to buy gap insurance because you are going to be upside down on the purchase for a long time.

i turn down gap INS because they wanted 25$ extra every month,

but i got 5Y tire insurance and 24H road side assistance instead , i feel gap was not necessary

anyways back to the fuel octane question. which is better , i'm not following the book.

I buy the cheapest ethanol/methanol 87 octane gas I can find and always get at least 36 mpg with an auto equipped XD.
Have you filled up the car and started fresh or are you still working off the tank of gas that was in the car when you bought it? If so, then there is probably a lot of idle time on the dealer lot (0 mpg) being factored in.

Holeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyy crap. $2500 for the 6yr/75,000 mile warranty? I got that on my xD also (2009 model). I think I paid about $450 for it. I'd have to check the bill of sale for the exact amount. I have no problem paying up front for it. If I need it its there. If I dont use it I can ask for it to be refunded when it wears out.

I always put the 87 octane in mine and I get between 28 to 32 mpg. I have an evil hill climb on my way to work, and I get alot of nosedives to the mpg from using the A/C in th summer and the remote start in the winter. Tho this summer seems to be worse for mpgs than last year. Maybe something I want to take a look at. I dont think I've made it over 30 mpg this year yet.

I also noticed that the mpg's went up after the break-in period was over on my car.

Edit: Ok, I dug up the paperwork on my car. The extended warranty was originally listed at $914 but the dealership knocked off $200 so it came to $714. This is the $0 deductible warranty too.

actually fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive and fill up to accurately calculate the gas milage. If you still get poor gas milage complain to your dealer. Anything above 87 octane is a waste of money.

Ditto on dumping the extended waranty. Toyotas don't break.

Yeah, if you want to replace your windshield every time you change your oil.

Isn't there a class action suit for cracked windshields as well?

i think on the 1st gen ones. that's because of the "square" shape, lots of stress cracks. i know guys who have a 1st gen who went through 3 or 4 windshields since owning them.

Don't worry about the xb guy, I'm sure any min some kid from the tc section will tell you your car's way slow and you should of bought a tc and bought his custom turbo kit from him for 4 grand. Enjoy your car. 87 octane is all you need, and putting anything higher is just going to leave a crapload of carbon residue in your engine. If you're looking at your avarage mpg, wait till you've gone thru most of the tank, as sitting idling in the dealership parking lot everytime someone starts it pushes your avarage down. I drive my 08 in a "spirited" manner and still get 27 on avarage. I got the gap because all it takes to total a lot of cars is a bent frame and 6 deployed airbags, which isn't hard to do if someone slams into you doing 50. I've had my car over 2years now I believe and I've never used/needed the warranty. Personally, I think you might have been ripped off. Dealers don't make much off of a scion sale so the shady ones are always looking to make extra cash off unsuspecting people. Your first, even if its your only mod, is lowering springs. Car has some whicked body roll, springs and a rear sway bar help it a lot.

thanks for all the replies guys,,

i misread, the $2500 is a combine of 6Y warranty + 5Y tire warranty + gap ins($4000) (( total lost ))

anyways, today i went to close to the curb and cratch the hubcap and rip the tire, by an inch, the hitting crub is not covered by tire ins. o well, i really like the tire ins not because of the tire, i'm sure i'm going to get custom rims and tires for it soon, what i like is the 24 road side assistance, i can use it unlimited time instead 3 time with AAA

i'm almost done with the tank, anyone know how to reset so i can really test it out? MPG

Press and hold the set/reset button. May i suggest that you at least skim the manual. Scions have some "hidden" features. Also when you ask about stuff that's in the manual you look like a ____(use your imagination).

When you fill the tank on the xD the average mpg on the gauge auto resets. Also the displayed mpg is usually 1-2 above the calulated mpg (miles travelled divided by gas used).

I dunno, I didnt get gap insurance on my xD. I did get Repair Replace insurance thru my auto insurance company (Travelers). If my car gets totalled they will buy me a brand new one of that model year minus my $500 deductible of course. It only cost an extra $20 per 6 month policy over regular collision coverage (takes the place of collision). I have road side assistance thru my AT&T phone, $2.99 per month and covers any car I'm in as long as I have my phone with me.

actually, avg MPG resets when you reset "trip A" meter.

i did buy gap insurance on my first xD, glad i did. i rolled it 1 year and 4 months into owning it. was totaled. insurance check was a purdy penny!!!!

i got gap on the new one, cause i drive 90 miles on the PA turnpike round trip to work each day. all it takes is one blown tire or a tractor trailer who feels like my lane is his to destroy the car.

oh, btw, i bought the new on one january 6th, i now have (as of this morning's commute) 14,900 miles....
