You're wasting your money using 93.. Higher octane gas is more resistant
to detonation (harder to ignite) and is only useful on engines with
high compression or FI. It doesn't add power.. it can actually provide less
power in a car designed for lower octane fuel such as the scion.

When compressed air and fuel are measured in order to obtain the exact measure of explosive strength, there is more volume of fuel required of 87 octane compared to 93 octane to reach the same amount of power.

It also does reset when you fill up. I almost never remember to reset my trip meter anymore. I just gas up, throw it into drive and the AVG MPG number resets itself.

And I bet my Repair/Replace insurance is cheaper than your gap insurance...tho maybe not if you figure the deductible into it...Hmm...

Like I said, I know mine's MPG stayed low during the break in period. And I think that these cars dont like the fuel with ethanol in it. I got 1-2 mpg more on pure gas than on gas with ethanol added. Tho its getting harder and harder around here to find gas with out ethanol. The one on my way to work gave in and is only offering gas with ethanol. =/

How are your driving habits? Do you find yourself leaving alot of other drivers in the back mirror when the light goes green? I understand that's a vague variable to ask but if you're not getting the desired MPG it may not be the car it may be the driver's habits and acceleration speeds.

I'll bite. How do you gun the throttle and maintain good mpg? Drafting?

110 mile round trip commute. 95% highway. That and I try to keep a constant speed while cruising, no hard acceleratin or brakeing.

Well, that makes sense. I usually get 32-34 mpg suburban driving. Lately I have been getting 32mpg. When I first was getting my car, I was checking everything out and saw at the dealership, and saw the car was getting 26.9mpg. I chalked it up to people having fun in a car they weren't going to buy. The best mpg I've seen on mine was avg ~40mpg according to the dash readout which isn't real accurate. I was driving some back road highway at night with construction for 10 miles that lowered the speed limit from 40-50 mph. I had recently stopped for gas before I hit the vacant endless construction.

Try using cruise control and coasting some more and I'm sure you'll increase that MPG just a bit more.

From what I've read about these forums, the MPG Avg is apparently the from the trip A mileage. And the MPG gauge, that tells you how much you're saving while driving, is off by 1-2 mpg.

Ah gotcha, my avg's have been from about 29-31 mpg. If you want to I hear turning off the car's engine while coasting helps. someone from this forum continuously averages about 40mpg, and yeah after reading his write ups, they're way too extreme for me. Lol

I understand that. I guess I should clarify, the 40mpg was what I read on the gauge. The 32-34 is what I calculate after filling up by how much dividing the mileage from the trip meter (+/-340 miles)by the amount of gas I put in (~10.1gal)

I paid just over $15,000 for my 2009 xD. After tax and everything.

Granted, the '09s were a touch cheaper. And I bought a 5-spd. And I got $1,000 off 'cause of the college grad promo. And taxes are lower in the midwest.
