To the original poster, did you drive with any windows down? If you drive with windows down in the xD, you MUST either have the front drivers and driver side passenger window all the way at the SAME time OR all (4) down at the SAME time...

 

Lol... I grew up on diesel cars. In fact, the xD is the first gasoline powered car I have ever owned. Doesn't seem too loud to me! Most of it is road/tire noise. The engine is turning a lot faster than a similar size diesel, but it is still not too loud. At the same speed that the xD is turning at 3,000 RPM, my Golf TDI would have been turning about 2,100 RPM. It would have been at peak torque, too... A tad under 190 foot pounds.

 

LOL... I know the feeling.. The only car I ever owned where there was no difference in noise with the windows up or down..

 

I have no clue what you guys are talking about. normal driving, my radio is at 25 and fine. windows down, it's up to 45 to hear it.

 

I bought by Xd last weekend, and was driving home on the highway and decided to open the back windows only... holy hell!
