it doesn't change the length of the lever. it changes the range of motion of the lever. hope that makes sense.

the short shift kit is actually a piece that goes under the hood, at the transmission end of the shift cable. nothing inside the cabin will change.

In this case, the length of the shifter itself doesn't change - it's the distance you move the shifter that changes. So you're actually getting a shorter throw than a shorter shifter.

Both posts above are 100% correct. Also, this particular short shift kit makes the shifts feel more precise... more positive. Compared to stock, it feels more like a gated shifter.
