Battery was the first thing I was thinking of too. I would check all the connections, a loose cable will do the same thing.

Buzzing sound, elaborate! Is the engine cranking? Flooded? Not getting fuel? Bad fuel pump relay? Could be a bunch of less-obvious things with the wonderful world of electronics...

If your xD has a manual tranny, have you checked that the clutch is able to be depressed all the way? I had a similar problem (though I don't remember a buzzing sound) with my 03 Vibe soon after I got it. Battery was fine, but it just wouldn't start. I could push start it, so as long as I parked on a hill, I was OK. Eventually got it in to a dealership, and they informed me that my new floor mat had slipped forward just enough to interfere with the clutch. I could still press it far enough to drive, but not quite far enough to actuate whatever switch is needed to start the car with the key. Needless to say, I was pretty embarrassed, but thankful it was an easy-to-fix problem!
So check your floor mat!
Other than that, good luck, I hope it's fixed soon, and let us know how it works out!

sounds like a battery to me too. the starter solenoid will usually make strange clicking or buzzing sounds when the battery is low. let us know!

Mine also did this once because I didn't have the clutch pushed all the way down, adjusted my foot and it started right up.
