In typical fashion, I seem to have destroyed the electronics on one of the 3 button key fobs for our 2009 SCION XD, while trying to change the battery. Since the LED doesn't even blink anymore when buttons are pressed, I probably slipped with the screwdriver or something. Well I certainly don't want to spend the dealers price for a replacement. So I found an online store that will sell me a new uncut key-fob (see link below). And since the inside module pops right out, I think I should be able to simply transplant the internal module to my old key fob (so I wouldn't have to cut the key), attempt to program it with one of the many online procedures I've seen (you know, with the door open/close, insert key, do a dance, combinations), and if it works I'm back in business. BUT, there seems to be some confusion as to whether or not the this replacement will work, because of the "G" chip issue. there is no "G" stamp on my existing key, but someone at this key seller told me on the phone that ALL Scion XDs from my year are "G" chip types. They say they'll do free ship and free returns and the price looks reasonable, but any info on this "G" chip issue might save me some time and hassle.
