Default Immobilizer/transponder chip???

Is there any place I can buy just the immobilizer/transponder chip for a spare key i got??? I was only given 1 key when I bought my tC, and recently threw all the guts from that key into a newer, 07+ model key, and already have the second key programmed but only need to get it cut and get a immobilizer/transponder chip put into it to work... I'm pretty sure the dealership will tell me that they can only sell me the whole key which I don't need or want to throw $200+ for it.

any help is appreciated!!!!

no, they are sold with the entire key. only other way you could get one a used one and take the immobilizer chip out.

I'd rather have an expensive key than have someone be able to just copy my key and steal my car. Not that it would happen like ever - but the piece of mind is worth it for me. Not to mention I got 3 keys with my car new (2 keyless entry ones and a valet key). If I bought used I wouldn't buy with only one key - I'd make the used car place get a second on their dime.

Get one on ebay and get it programed at a shop that does key programming. Even ace hardware can program transponder keys. I got a toyota key from ebay for like $15 and had it programed by a friend with a launch computer. The catch is that you need a master key, the main key with keyless remote, to do this. The car can actually program its own keys as long as you have a launch computer that can tell it to do so.

i already got an extra key from ebay that needs to be cut but the only thing i need to make it turn my car on is that little immobilizer chip that's glued inside the key... i might see if i can find a used key with the immobilizer and just take that out..

ebay sells just the chips also, then you pop it into the key, the key has a little cover on the bottom that you can pry open.

we are talking about the same little black immobilizer chip that is glued into the key right? not the little triangle kind of looking thing with the buttons and where the battery goes connected, right?
