Default New Scion Owner

Hey guys, new Scion xD owner here!

I bought my car on 3/5/10 and stumbled across ScionLife while I was looking for some info on mods.

Loving my xD so far. I was shopping for a while and stuck between the Honda Fit and the xD, but ultimately decided to go with the xD due to all of the features it listed as standard. Plus, the xD drove better (imo) and was peppier when I hit the gas.

So, while I have your attention, a few questions if you don't mind:

1. I don't want a window rattling sound system, but I would like to add a little to the low end to complete the sound (the stock system has practically no bass). Have any of you used any of the powered compact (under the seat) subwoofers with the factory Pioneer head unit in the xD and been pleased?

2. Thinking of adding the rear sway bar just to add a little more of a fun factor in city driving with a sportier feel. (I have the automatic transmission by the way) Worth it? Or would I need to add the springs struts and shocks to get what I'm after?

3. How many of you love your arm rest? I want one, but $70 - $80 seems a tad high.

4. I notice most of you list trdsparks.com when referring folks to the TRD parts on the cheap. Any reason you guys don't use scionpartspeople.com? It seems that their prices are a tad lower than trdsparks.

Anyway, I love the forum, I love my xD, really glad I chose the Scion, and I hope to become a contributing member.

1) Not an audio person but u can maybe try to get a rear cargo cover and maybe put a small sub on that if the seats doesnt work out
2) Rear sway bar is one of the best mods for this car, springs/struts will only improve it from there as well as the appearance.
3) I havent heard a real complaint about either available arm rests for the xD.
4) TRDsparks is a long trusted parts provider for the Toyota community. That link u provided is basically a cookie cutter parts bin site (i.e. http://www.volvopartspeople.com/ < notice the exact same layout?)

I was looking at the compact subs so that I can keep my cargo space in the back. I'm a scuba diver and often toss lots of equipment in the car, in which some cases it would be wet equipment.

Cool. I think I'll be picking up these two parts some time this week.

Ahh, good to know. I thought that site looked a little generic. Are these generic cookie cutter sites prone to ripping people off, or are they somewhat trustworthy? I noticed some of the largest discounts at the cookie cutter place was on electronic equipment, like the alarm and the remote start.

Well as for the armrest I prefer the Ist armrest over the zeta armrest, but both should function as needed. The arm rest offered stateside through scion lacks storage and cup holder, but offers more room for buckling up.

I'm looking at one of these two for audio...

http://www.amazon.com/Boss-BASS600-L.../ref=pd_cp_e_1

http://www.amazon.com/Boss-BASS1200-.../dp/B001DXF990

I think i'm going to go with the 10 under the passenger seat, since it has the bass controller.

The 10-inch is definitely a good choice. But I wonder how difficult is it to install the sub under the seat.

I was looking at those two models also JJ. I read a few reviews saying that the Boss amps built in them don't last long, and a lot of folks had them die.

But for the price, you really can't go wrong. I'm eager to hear your thoughts once you get it installed JJ. Maybe a few pics too, if you have the time to post em.

Good call Nateson. I didn't know that the cup holder was sacrificed to get the arm rest. I'm going to look into the Ist arm rest. Thanks for the advice.

If you are looking for the factory remote start from Scion dont do it. I read that even tho you put the key in and turn the ignition to on, the car shuts off and you have to restart it when you put your foot on the brake.

Go aftermarket. I have one in my car made by CompuStar and love it! I love being able to put the car in park when the engine is running, hit the remote start button, wait for the lights to flash then pull the key out and run in to the store and come back to a warm car with out it ever shutting down!

almost true. as soon as you unlock, it shuts the car off. stupid safety features. it starts off the unlock button. press press press and hold. after 5 seconds it starts up. so the car is locked while it's running. any attempt to enter it shuts it off. manual key in door, opening door, unlocking car keylessly.

ever since my remote start was installed, my keyless range dropped from over 80 ft to 5 ft. toyota claims nothing is wrong. i say bull. what's the use of having a remote start if i can't remotely start it?

Oops, I guess I got confused but yea seems stupid that you still have to restart it after remote starting it and wanting to get into it.

My keyless entry and the remote starter both work from my kitchen. Thru several walls, about 40 ft to the driveway. It will run the car for 20 minutes and then shut it down if you dont get in and turn the key on. It will also shut the car down if you get in and put your foot on the brake pedal with out the key in the ignition and turned to the "on" position. Seems like a much more common sensical approach to saftey.

i like yours. is it the scion brand one?

also, after having my remote start put in, my keyless doesn't work more than 5-10 ft from the car.... ugh. they STILL can't find a "problem" with it.

My remote start is by CompuStar. So tchnically I have three fobs for my car. The Scion key with the keyless entry buttons. The single button remote start. And the wireless control for the light kit I installed. :D
