As the title reads I am a novice in regards to car modification/culture and had a few questions I was hopping to get the communities opinion on, I drive a 2008 xD and its been my daily for the past few years, still runs great, I've had no major issues. I want to start driving it further, using it for more weekend road trips and things of that nature and was wondering if there are any modifications that would be suitable for that purpose. The furthest I've ever driven in the xD has been to San Diego which is a two and a half hour drive for me, the car mad it, however the last 30-ish min it did feel like it was struggling a bit and after I did notice a burnt smell, similar to the smell of a hair dryer. (I do perform regular maintenance so the car did have clean oil, new oil/air filter and coolant at time of the trip)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Air filters are often overlooked. I would replace those if not done in the last year or two.
Since the engine wants fuel, air, and spark to run well; I would refresh those three as reasonable (fuel injector cleaner, air filter/MAF cleaning, coil/sparkplug)
