Default Painting Hub Caps

Hey everyone, haven't posted for a long while, but just recently I had extra time on my hands so I decided that with the spare set of hub caps I got almost free that I would paint them to match the car. I spent a good 2 hours just sanding and prepping for the paint. I laid 3 coats of primer and then 3 coats of this metallic paint. It feels real unprotected as I didn't add a clear coat, but I figure that this is a test run and if i really like it i'll do it over. For those interested I added a few pics just to give you guys an idea of how it looks. I actually like it a lot other than the few paint discrepancies. I started rushing towards the end and the paint in some spots did not coat evenly.....

What do you guys think?

^ x2 I'm not usually a fan of painted hub caps, but the color is nice. try using narrower tape on the emblem and cut the edge with a SHARP hobby knife.

you know you can pop the emblems out is a small flat head. makes painting so so much easier.

Damn, I didn't know they would pop off. I figured the best way to go about masking it was painters tape and using a razor blade around the emblem. I'll have to do it over when I get another day off. For now they'll have to do, the bad masking job is not that noticeable, but definitely need to be redone. Thanks for the tips

You don't need to put a clear bra on the hub caps, just get a can of clear coat (pretty sure they sell cans of it) and shoot it with that.

Either way it looks good

when i did mine, you can actually take of the scion emblems by popping them out rather than tapping it, its pretty easy to put them back on too
