Default Replacement windshield wipers

My daugter has an '08 xd and is in need of new wipers. We ordered from the dealer but all we got was the rubber blade. Is this all there is? Does Rainx or any other after market manufacturer make replacement wipers for the xd?

Thanks.

Almost all Toyota/Scion offer a rubber replacement 'insert'. This is what is typically replaced. The only time you really have to replace the blade (the piece holding the rubber) is if it is damaged. They full blade is available from Toyota, but the price of $20-$30 per side turns most people off.

Aftermarket wipers will also work. They are just general fit though. You will have to get the correct sizes and you'll be ok. Take off the wiper blade when going into the store and ask for that size.

As already said, almost any aftermarket will fit. The sizes are 26" for the driver side, and 14" for the passenger side.

The rubber blades that are on the car now don't seem to want to come off. Is there a trick to it?

I'm assuming it is pretty standard... there are two spring-metal blades that go into a groove on either side of the blade insert, then the whole thing slides into the wiper arm. There should be a detent at one end of the rubber insert where the wiper arm grabs it... the detents will be in line with the groove that the spring-metal blades fit into.

Grab the end of the old insert opposite the detents and pull hard. Once it pope out of the detents, it will slide out easily. Note which way the spring-metal wants to curve relative to the windshield. You want to put them back in the same way so that pressure is applied evenly across the blade. Installation is opposite of removal. It helps to have some needle-nose pliers to pull the last little bit onto the detents.

Found a how-to: http://www.expertvillage.com/video/1...ar-inserts.htm

That's a Subaru in the video... they have a clip that you squeeze. I'm not sure how Toyota does it... but you'll get the idea.

funny post. mesure the length of the wiper and go to auto parts store and buy matching blades. e.g. tC wipers seem to fit pretty well

I had to break my old wipers to get them off... But I put Bosch wipers on, the ones with no frame.... They're freakin great!!
