the Maintenance required light?

Its a reminder light- will flash starting at 4500 mile intervals and will remain on after 5000miles- It's not a warning light or anything, just a reminder to get your maintenance done- You can reset it by:

Make sure Odo is reading your mileage (not Trip A or Trip B). Turn key to OFF, Turn key to ON and hold down Trip Meter Reset for at least 5 sec, Odo shows "000000" and maintenance light goes off.

(this is in your owner's manual on page 109 by the way)

I tried doing this and it doesn't work...There is an error in the owners manual. If you follow the above procedure, you will get the S-On or S-Off message which gives you the option of the gauge needles to "sweep" when you start the car.

In order to reset the maintenance light, the reading MUST be in Trip A first, then turn off the ignition, hold the Trip Meter Reset button, turn the ignition to on and then wait for the "000000" to count down to nothing (000000 to 00000 to 0000 tp 000, etc all the way to nothing on the display).

I too discovered today that following the manual (mine is a 2012, so it's on page 225) gives me the "s-on" message rather than resetting the counter to 0, so thanks for the correction.

New question: is there a way to determine what the value currently is rather than reset it to 0? I had 2 recent reasons for wondering this:
  1. I just bought the car used from someone and wondered how long it had actually been since a service, or at least an oil change... or at least since someone had reset the counter, eh?
  2. After I got the car serviced, I wanted to be sure that the Scion service department had properly reset the value to 0.
I can set it to 0 after service myself, but I still wanted to know if they had and will want to know for future service visits.

Thanks,
Chris

Edit: yes, I guess that means that the manual still hasn't been corrected during the past 4 years.

My honest opinion is that you should start a new thread rather than post under the "Resetting the service light" thread. Your reply doesn't relate to my question (the post above yours) in the least bit.

Go to the following page and click on the New Thread button:

And post it under the XA forum, not the XD forum.
