This is much more work than they tend to require. As I often tell people, though, there are no guarantees with any car. For any given model some people will have no problems while others will have quite a few. The odds of each vary, though.

 

I have a 2009 Scion xD with 101k miles, bought at 55k miles. The car has been very reliable with no complaints except:

• The back left interior door handle stopped functioning around 90k miles.

Maintenance done:

• Mobil-1 0w-20 synthetic oil changes @ 7.5k intervals.
• Valvoline MaxLife ATF (WS spec) drain & refill @ 90k miles.
• Seafoam when I bought it @ 55k miles.
