Default Sirius Satellite Radio for xD

I just purchased a new Sirius Satellite Radio (the Starmate 4, which runs about $100). As I was trying to hook it up, I saw something on the standard pioneer stereo that said "SAT ready"

According to the Sirius installation instructions, I have to actually extend the satellite receiver outside the car to the top of the roof. I'm not too crazy about that idea, but keeping the sat receiver on the dash board gives horrible results in regards to reception.

My question is, has anyone installed a Sirius Satellite Radio in their xD? If so, were you able to somehow utilize the "SAT ready" functionality/capability (whatever it happens to be)? What advice can you give for best results?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Scion dealership installed mine as an incentive when i bought the car. Took them literally 30 minutes so I'm sure they utilize that function, and they placed the antenna on the roof right in front of the spoiler.

Yea my dealership gave me satellite as well and put the receiver behind my regular antenna too. I've seen some tC owners put it around the door frame of the trunk where it wouldn't be smashed. I would definitely install it somewhere on the outside of the car for good reception.

So that StarMate 4 is like something you can stick to the dash or front window and use that for satellite navigation right? Did you not know the xD was capable of sat. radio if you just purchased the package for it?

ChelsDs, I just found out about the Sat in the xD. But I've looked around and it seems I have to pay around $400-$500 for the pre-installed sat to be activated. The Sirius model I bought (which allows for pausing for up to 45 minutes) was for $100.

I called the dealership and they do want me to pay $460 + tax to install the receiver. Blah.

Bullcrap, it can't be that hard to do it yourself. Check out local car audio shops and see what they would charge. If you're not afraid to attempt it yourself then do it. Or if you're like me, get someone else to do it for you

well, I would say use the 3mm input jack on the dash, but we've tried that before and it doesn't work well. best results for audio is to use the DEI-14110 FM Modulator. you'll get a butt load of electrical noise using the audio jack or aux in. oh, and look around for the shark fin antenna that replaces your stock one. I bet there is one that might have both am/fm and Sirius in it.
