Default Snow Day and a bare bones basic xD

I just got my xD Friday - - no extra bells and whistles, just a basic model without vsc or tire upgrades. Today it snowed. I had an appointment an hour away from home and here's how the xD did. Keep in mind I am used to driving in the snow this time of year and worse still, I have had to drive a rear wheel drive Mustang in the snow before.

The xD performed amazingly well. No slipping or sliding as I approached stop lights, no slipping or sliding as I made turns. Leading to the highway, the on ramp is at an incline, no hesitation getting going and as I pulled on to the highway I took it up to 60 with no sliding whatsoever. As I headed north towards home, my podunk town hadn't plowed yet so the roads were slushy. Slush is normally a nightmare -- the Mustang used to pull into the slush no matter how slow and steady you drove. Not the xD...kept my speed and had no trouble maintaining a stable ride and never got pulled in towards the slush as I had expected. Overall, the car performed very well IMO. Of course, there was only an inch of snow. I've got my fingers crossed that she'll perform well on the next big snowstorm.

sounds like an improvement over the tC. I *almost* can't wait to try it out for myself

They don't tend to our streets very well here when snow and ice hits, so we'll chalk it up to location.
It was hell to drive in the last couple years. In fact the only car I've ever had that drove well on it was my old 83 toyota pickup, loaded with sand and bricks, rwd, not 4wd.

I was in upstate NY for Thanksgiving. A light dusting of snow fell overnight. The roads were clean, but a railroad overpass still had some. A lady in a Jeep Liberty was going a little too fast and did a 360 right in front of me. I pressed down on the brakes, gently but firmly. My xD stopped in the snow in a straight line with no problem. I love it!

ladies in jeeps = scary ____ (especially in the rain!!!)

glad to hear about the brakes, esp. in snow. We've had a few emergency stops in the xA from idiots whipping sideways at us, flooring it around us and slamming the brakes, etc. etc. and so far the xA has stopped quickly and without any issues.. almost as good as my old 240sx - THAT thing could handle some heavy braking.

has anyone ridden in an xa/xb1 and an xd in the snow? i'm curious to hear the differences.. its a new platform with new suspension, curious to see if toyota was able to make it handle better or if they are all about even (with the proper sway bars, etc. where applicable)

Dang, that's not what I want to hear. Tomorrow is supposed to be first substantial snowstorm of the season. Here's hoping I fare better than you did postman. I was impressed with the xD in a slushy snow but that only amounted to an 1" - tomorrow is supposed to be 8-10". Got my fingers crossed.

I heard that theRSA tires have a rep for not being that great...Had same problem with Toyo's on Rav4....They are a great tire....But not great traction on snow....Good luck on Mon
