Default Snow Tires

Ok, so the stock tire size is practically impossible to find anywhere. I live in Colorado and it's going to start snowing soon, so since I am still waiting for my 16" alloys to come in, I figured I need to order some snow shoes for the steelies.

I have only been able to find one place that carries snow tires in 195/60R16 size. It's www.1010tires.com in Canada. I ordered some Pirelli Sottozero winter tires in this size...I probably should have went with a more common 205/55/R16 size, but I know nothing about tires and didn't want to take the chance.

Just thought I'd let you guys know this is where to get some snow tires if you need them...

Okay, aren't Toyota/Scion dealerssort of obligated to carry tires in the proper size? Yes, I know they'll be more expensive, but as a last resort??

They do...They just order the tires from the parts microfiche, but they do not show winter tires since it isn't "installed by the factory". The only two suppliers are Dunlop & Bridgestone...Sooo I'm just doing my own thing. =-)

You could have gone with the 205 without any issues. It's not idea to go to a wider tire for snow since you want to minimize the contact patch to cut through the snow. 195/55-16 would work as well, although slightly smaller diameter.

Well I got an email from 1010tires.com yesterday, the tires are available, but it may take 6-8 weeks to get them...I'm just going to cancel the order and go with the 205/50/R16's...They are about $90 a piece compared to the 195/60R16 at about $150 each. Oh well. At least I tried! =-)

205/55/16 is a much closer match to stock as far as overall diameter goes.

You're right! I meant to say that. Yes, 205/55/R16. Thanks for catching that.
