stow away center seat belt
This has been bugging me since day one, but I hadn't thought anything of it. The center seatbelt is supposed to stow away behind the seats on the roof. That stow away piece, are the belts supposed to catch on something to hold them up there? or are they supposed to hang by the graces of god?
Mine was actually a little loose, so the belt wouldn't stay up there at all. I decided to take it by the dealership. Service guy pushed hard enough for it to snap back into place, so it looks copacetic. A couple turns of the *thing* up there, and we pushed the buckles in place, but it doesn't take much of a tug to get them out. Almost as if a good speedbump will take them back down.
anyone know how this thing is supposed to work? Sure, there's always duct tape, but I'd like it to function as its designed. There weren't anyother xD's on lot to look at, so I have nothing to compare

The damn thing just falls loose. It's supposed to fit snug, nothing to catch it on. I shoved a piece of cardboard in the larger nook and it seems to push down the belt catch enough to not come loose.
Started a thread for this awhile back:
Clickie
and Zoltiz just removed his altogether, not sure where he posted it at tho.

o .... well that seems shotty as all hell. I guess make that my first official complaint on the xD. Bummer
no idea how I missed your post ... maybe if we had an owners section, one could sort through these ugly car, don't like the car, what's the car like posts and find the stuff posted by the people who own the car, talking about their new purchases ....

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed when it kept falling. Oh well, I'm never gonna sit in the back seat so I'm not to worried...I usually have the seats folded down anyways to haul stuff. Maybe Scion or someone will release something that'll fit in there that looks OEM.
I think I may have a solution for you. My sister actually figured it out during the most recent test drive I had in a xD. Basically, you need to pull on the seat belt itself to give it some slack before trying to stow the seat belt latch into the roof cubby. Once you have some slack, insert the small latch and then the larger latch into the roof cubby. Slowly let go of the slack and the latches should stay neatly and securely in the roof cubby. Hope this helps :-)
Picking up my MGM 5MT xD tomorrow night! Woo!

I used the belt itself to help with wedging the buckles into the cubby (basically a layer of belt between buckles to make it more of a tight fit).
And then I realized that I'll never have 3 people in the back:

How far does your set belt dangle? Mine popped out from the thing in the ceiling and I barely notice it.
shea: I'll try that tomorrow and see what happens. Though I think I went over a bump too fast and it fell out. Not sure exactly.

It doesn' dangle so much that I can't ee, it's more of an annoyance than an issue.
1. When its hanging down, I tend to look back at it and wonder how to keep it up. When it's up, I look back and wonder when its going to fall.
2. Then there's the principle of it. It's there, it should work, and it doesn't. At least not correctly as it sits.
Here's a thought ... what if the spinnable thing were detatcheable, and we could stow it all way on the side, where the seatbelt magically comes out from behind the panel.
All the same, if this is something they fix int he future, I will definately be in the market for a retrofit

I think the removal has been covered. A few threads down the list even. A great, simple tutorial. Good luck.
well I mean by design. Sure it can be taken down, we drive the ultimate erector sets. if the parts arent just snapped together, they're held by a 14mm bolt!
I'm past temp fixing it for our xD's. I'm looking forward, to 09+ models, as one of toyota/scion's "refreshed" designs. Make the seatbelt guide removable , then create a cubby of sorts where the belt passes through the trim to snap the guide in place.
Just a thought...
