08 RS1
5 Speed Manual (shifting @ about ave.3.5k RPM)
TRD lowering Springs
STOCK everything else

Highway commuting 25+miles distace @ 55mph = 44+MPG
Highway commuting 25+miles distace @ 65mph = 37+MPG
Highway commuting 25+miles distace @ 75+mph = 32+MPG

City Driving shifting @ about 3k RPM w/moderate starts = 30MPG

As much as I LOATHE driving granny style and getting passed on the highway, you can SERIOUSLY increase your MPG by slowing it down to under 60. I want to do intake and exhaust soon to try and up even these numbers. I seem to have gotten an especially efficient one.

I get around 33mpg on the freeway and probably 30 overall, I guess I drive harder than others. I have a 5 spd. Talked to another guy with the same setup and he is getting around 36 on the freeway, but he is driving around 60 mph and I set my cruise for about 72mph. I have a problem with people driving under the speed limit on the freeways, if you don't want to do the posted speed, get on the back roads, but not when I'm in the mood for a spirited drive, lol.

I shift at about 3.5/4k and accelerate hard (why ease it in with such a responsive engine?!).

What brand of fuel are you using? It's made a difference in other vehicles I've owned. So far, Chevron has consistantly provided equal or better fuel economy from my personal experience. All my Toyotas are filled with Chevron.

yeah, I use Chevron most of the time, but lately I've been filling up at the local Safeway. I've heard that people have been getting better mileage with Chevron, guess I should just use it.

Been seeing 32-31 consistently city/hwy driving to work and back (14miles round trip) Went to Seattle and back to Portland and had 37mpg going average 65mph. However when I do the calculation by hand the car computer is consistently 2mpg more that my calculation. For whatever that is worth.

I'm real happy with the dropping gas prices BTW

I wouldn't worry about MPG on the first couple tanks. My 2nd tank on my tC got me 8mpg...

I have an auto w/o VSC.

City: 28mpg (90% of my driving is at 40-45mph up and down lots of hills)
Hwy: 32-34mpg
Top: 38mpg on the highway 65-70mph from Seattle to Portland.

I drive about 50% Freeway, 50% City Streets. 2009 xD automatic.

My new 2009 xD is just short of the 1000-mile "break-in period". So far, after about 3 tank refills, I'm usually reading an average MPG of about 33-35 (this is City/Freeway combined).

I'm very happy with this! I'm not an aggressive driver, but I'm not a cautious hyper-miler either. On the SoCal freeways, I will aim for a typical cruising speed of 65-70 mph.... since I always go to work when traffic is light. Once in a while I will speed up to 80+ mph, but only when I'm in a hurry, or when I'm passing up some slowpokes.

Driving on the freeway to work today and got 42.5 mpg. I have been getting about 30-32 MPG with Tom's racing LTS on the most aggressive setting. Turned off and driving like a typical LA driver I was able to get at minimum 36. 42.5 is still the best that I have gotten. Yea!

I have an '09 xD (auto) with 900 miles and I checked my average mpg tonight - 38.6 mpg.

Granted, that is with 100% city driving since last fill up and using a lot of fuel saving techniques and a lot of coasting.

Cruise control ftw.

That sounds about right. I think even 40 mpg is possible, not sure in a auto, but manual should be do-able, its just a matter of paying attention to detail, and dialing in your ride just right.

Come on peoples... get into that 40 mpg plateau!!!!!!

so i coast down a hill with a stop sign ahead, is it better to ride the brakes a bit, or brake harder near the sign.

just wondering

Definitly coast down hill in gear. If you have a manual, down shift to 2nd right before the stop-sign. Keeping the car in gear (no foot on gas) , while coasting down hill will not burn a single drop of gas. That same hill, it could be going up you get 22mpg average , going down you don't burn any gas = average the two for the distance traveled for the hill and your probably at 35+ mpg
