Default Why is it hard to get Scion xD ?

Hi,

I'm in the process of buying Nautical Blue Scion xD. But it seems that none of the Scion dealership in my area (philadelphia, PA) has it.
I went to a pretty big Scion dealership, ordered one and gave them some money for down payment (ough......). It's been a week now, and everytime I called them they kept on promising that I would get it soon. I hesitate canceling the order and asking my money back, since I have no luck finding it at other dealerships in my area. They only have white and silver ones. I'm not the kind of person who washes their car regularly, so getting dark color would help me in some way.

Is there any reason why it's so hard to get xD with dark color ?

And is it true that installing aftermarket alarm/remote engine starter will void the warranty ?

Thank you.

The '09s are going to be coming out soon, so, what they have on the lot is it until the new cars come out, they stop production on '08s so that they won't have many stilling on the lots when the '09s hit the lots. I find that the darker colors show dirt faster than the silver ones, my old car was a silver xA, was great at hiding the dirt. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I kinda regret putting the down payment. I should have waited a little longer to get the 2009. Any idea when will it be on the market ? I'm trying to get out the deal now.............Will it be just a carryover from 2008 ?

Again, will installing aftermarket alarm/remote engine starter void the warranty ?

Sorry for having a lot of question.

Thank you again.

Talk to your dealer, s/he should be happy to help do whatever you want as long as your interested in getting the car. Aftermarket alarm shouldn't affect warranty, I'd be wary of the remote start as some of them can wear out the starter on the car and Toyota won't cover it unless it was their brand. You can always get the Toyota one from trdsparks for cheaper then the dealership prices also.

I wish you Godspeed for your xD delivery though

Seems there were still quite a few tC's & xB's on the lots when the '09's hit the lots. Maybe they didn't plan for the xD's to sell as well as they have and that's why there's a shortage at year end. There's only one xD (in black) at the dealer nearest me. I'm waiting to see what the new color will be and then I'll decide between it and a MGM.

They are nowhere to be found around here. I'm glad I got the Barcelona Red when I did.

Gas mileage is also a factor.

The same issue is occurring with the Yaris hatch / Honda Fit / Toyota Prius.

You can find examples of all three, but you can't be picky with colors / options.

I stumbled upon the xD after trying to find several other cars for almost a month. I knew exactly what I wanted, but couldn't find it.

The hottest cars on the market right now are the 30+ MPG versions.

I am surprised there aren't dealer lots full of blue xDs though - blue? Really?

The supply shortage in our area is related to brisk sales and the Teamster's transportation strike that has choked off supply of new cars to sell.

I've arranged to purchase a SW xD that is sitting at the port in NJ and the local dealer here in VA says the car may arrive here at the end of this month. This is a very large dealership of many brands of cars and right now they have a grand total of TWO Scions to sell, one tC and one xB!

There are several Honda Fits on the lot next to the Toyota/Scion place. They really are dull-looking compared to the xD. They also drive like go-carts.

It depends on why you bouoght it?

If it was soley for fuel economy, then you're probably not going to be happy.

If it was for looks, mod potential, etc, etc, you'll love it!!

I really preferred the XB over the XD in many categories including interior room, comfort, quiet ride and appointments. It was quite peppy as well for a box!

But I needed the best fuel economy I could get while still maintaining a modicum of comfort, reliability and overall functionality (is that a word?).

The XB just didn't deliver in teh fuel use category

After a ton of research, I decided on the XD.
I told the sales person that I didn't care what color it was unless it was PINK. Then I'd have to draw the line

I ended up with a magnetic gray metallic which I absolutely love. And if you're not going to keep her clean, they you'd like it too....doesn't show daily dust and dirt so bad.

Congratulations on your purchase. Chances are, you're going to love it!

Same thing happened to me with my RS 1.0. I'm in CT and it's the same port in NJ I bet.

Just curious, when did you order yours? I ordered mine in the beginning of June.

Also, some info for you. My dealer told me that right now, the port is almost at 100% shipping capacity (meaning they truck out 1100 cars per day from the port when they usually shipped out 1500 per day. during the strike, they shipped out 700 per day). He said deliveries should start becoming normal again.

Mine is expected within two weeks (VIN # by the end of this week).

Hope that helps you.

^^^ To go along with that, there will be some delivery delays in the PA/East Coast Area due to the carrier going out of business. They have about 10 carriers trying to pick up the volume. But if there are 1500 cars to ship a day, they're only able to handle 1000. So they fall behind more every day. TLS (Toyota Logistics Services) is working diligently to find other carriers.

cdyerkes, just saw your post..........arranged to purchase my 08 xD on July 5. Dealer already had color/tranny that I wanted on order and the car was just sitting at the port in NJ requiring no port installed items and only awaiting a ride to VA. Car is now scheduled to arrive 7-21.

My dealer said 09s may not be arriving at his dealership until September and most of their xDs are presold. The RS1 they had lasted one day on the lot before being snatched up.

My preference would have been to wait until the 09s were here but since I will probably keep this car for 10 or more years the difference in resale value between a 10 year old or 9 year old xD will probably be minimal.
