Default xB1 to xD?

Anybody made the switch?

I love my 2005 xB more than anything (we're involved), but it actually makes significant economic sense to trade it in. My payment would drop considerably, and theoretically I could easily have a new xD paid off in two or three years.

I wouldn't even consider an xB2 (since I don't like things that SUCK), but my brother just bought an xD and I rather like the little fellow.

To anyone has made the switch: What do you like, what do you miss?

Also: are there a fair amount of mods you can do to this thing? The xB1 probably has the most mods / DIY's available in the Scion family (unless you count "hp boots" on the tC side of the fence), and I demand the ability to spend money on unnecessary, distinctive things for my car!

Thoughts? Don't tell my car I posted this

wouldnt you save just keeping the xb? but as aftermarkets parts go and due to recession. there is not many as any other scion in the family but theres a good amount to keep you modding till they come out with greater parts. good luck with yuor decision

Having a tC and test driving an xD with my g/f, I was also surprised by how much I liked it. I'm curious to see the RS2.0 xD whenever it may come out. If it looks half as good as the RS 1.0, I'd put it on my short list.

If it makes that much sense financially, I say go for it. It's still a nice car, IMO. Plus you're getting something new again and can pass your xB on to its next loving owner.

Just a heads-up: If you want VSC -- especially if you want a 5-speed with VSC -- give the dealership plenty of notice. Even though VSC will be standard on all cars by 2012, they are rare on xD's. I would have had to wait a few months for mine, but they found a BRM one and I switched to that color. Only had to wait a couple of weeks for that.

With other manufacturers bringing their own "2-box" cars to market now I see little need to compromise when I replace my xB.

Miss-lack of JDM parts, space, lack of rim choices
Gain-more power

lack of rim choices? .. yea right .. we carry 5x100 bolt pattern which most of toyota carries (celica, matrix, corolla and tc) not only toyota but vw's and subaru aswell and all these play a good roll in the tuning industry so many aftermarket wheels for these cars was a must and succeeded. But i can agree it lacks abit of space... but thats why theres the Xb2 lol

If you have a 2005 shouldn't it be payed off in less than 2 years? The only advantage other than being new that the xD has that I know of is the slight gain in power, but is it heavier? Definitely a lot more room in the xB, every now and then I would like having that much room.

ok let me rephrase, the rim styles i'm looking for are limited in my choices. easier finding some 3 piece rims that in 5x100 are only 2 piece. but for most rims i don't care for yeah there's more 5x100.

yeah, don't understand why there's little 3-piece rim options especially if there's that many cars/models using 5x100. and for parts, it's sorta limited, i guess for what is my taste.

Yes, and after 3.5 years of paying on it, it's appraising at like $2000 less than what I paid for it. I guess that's what happens when a manufacturer discontinues a popular vehicle for NO APPARENT REASON.

Anyway, the room thing is what I'm most concerned about. I regularly pile four people and luggage into my box, and we just make it. In your experience, would a roof rack compensate for the lack of interior space?

let's see from my experience with stuff and shopping at sam's. smaller trunk in xd. if you need to put down seats to make more room in trunk you loose the leg space in the back row as the seat moves forward. not like the xb the rear seat stays stationary when folding down.

isnt 3 piece wheels more for the luxury cars? because if it is then its self explanitoy for why there is not much to choose from. Parts for the xd such as for tuning is not bad based on how the economy is going.

hmm maybe but i don't think so. these 3 sets are 3-piece and don't really have the "luxury" look. yet my current set up only the 5x100 comes in 2-piece.

i can fit 3 6ft guys in my car with me, im not sure about luggage as my hatch is usually loaded with loose clothing and other parafanalia. depending the size of ur rear passengers, u can also push the rear seats forward for an extra 2-3 inches of space

I own both and the xD is much more twitchy than the xB. VSC should have been standard from the get go. xD scares me when it rains. it jumps all over the road and hydroplane very easily. and to think I have no problems going out in really bad weather. I got my DL driving in Hail/tornadoes, freezing rain and bad snow storms. but the xD scares me in that kind of weather more than the weather itself. but it's fine in the snow. I can't figure that out. I do like the power bump and potential for cheap power gains. car needs a LSD badly and turn in sucks. steering can't keep up in those quick moments sometimes. I have the TRD suspension and want a sway bar. but now I want adjustable damping shocks. I think that would benefit the car better

A roof rack will decrease your gas mileage, wont be much but it would bother some people, unless you get one you can take completely off easily.

The whole room thing though, the xB can't be beat. I know comparing it to the xA, well there is no comparison and I'm sure the xD is no where close to it either. If you want room the xB2 is the way to go but gas mileage goes down and... I hate the exterior.

Seriously? I haven't had any scary moments in my xD. I could only get my VSC to activate in an empty, snow-covered parking lot... on purpose. I'll admit the suspension isn't nearly as refined as my 2003 Golf... but that's to be expected.

Roof rack? Psshhhh!! Didn't we already discuss this option:

or this...

...lol. I know you disagree about towing with the xD...
