Default xD Broken Into.....

Hey guys, just a quick question. Just last night my xD was broken into the drive side window was broken and it seems as though they used some type of crow bar to wedge in between the glass and the door, and then basically pried the window open/ shattered the window. I don't have any pics at the moment, i'll try to get some tomorrow before i take it into the Toyota dealer. Haven't decided to go with insurance or not, that is kinda why i'm here.
So obviously if the estimate is more than my deductible, i'll end up going through insurance, and i have a feeling that it will be, but i was wondering what you guys think? So the edge where the glass met the window is bent. Looks like the window track where the window slides up and down the metal was torn. Also the door panel is scratched because of the glass shards and the painted window button trim has pits from where shards hit it. My question is, the scratches on the interior are not bad, but then would insurance fork out the dough to replace those parts? And then also, what do you guys think it costs just to fix the window and the bend in the door? I almost think they might have to replace that part of the door, if not the entire door.

O and i'll admit that my car getting broken into is kinda due to my stupidity, i usually tuck my ipod into the side where the passenger seat meets the center console, so its very difficult to see. My girlfriend insisted on bringing her ipod to plug in, which was fine but i left my ipod in the cup holder so when i left, i forgot to hide it..... my bad.

Honestly I would get an estimate from the dealer to see how much and what they would replace/fix would be.

Sorry to hear about the break in as well I'd be devestated if mine got broken in to.

man sorry to hear on that, i feel your pain wihen they did that to my xb and even f*ed up my grill to get into my hood. i'd go thru insurance. i not sure what your deductible, as for the window it was like $150ish on the xb and for the door, man if it's bent i'd say have them replace that part. damn those haters will get what's coming to them.

Yea i was thinking how that would have made a difference in this scenario. for example if i went with say the factory alarm. The alarm would have went off the second the glass broke right? so that would give those thieves enough time to steal the ipods and run away anyway. Thats what i think, i mean i had cash in my glovebox that i carry just in case. And they didn't even have the time to do that. This was in a outback steakhouse parking lot. I usually don't roam around in shady areas, but i'm definately getting tint now just cause it'll be harder for people to look into my car for stuff. Alarm i'll still hold off on for now. I don't want to drop too much money into this car.

dam that sucks thats why i dont leave anything in my car. dont even leave my ipod in the glove box. no alarm can stop someone from just breaking the glass and snatching stuff from your car.

Just keep accessories with you where ever u go. economy is heading to a recession so theft is going to be going up, especially for ipods, gps, etc. Sorry it happened though

actually i thought about that too. my car they were semi-professional. they punctured the glass right above the lock on the xb but good thing had tint to hold the glass together and the rail from my curtains was in the way and they couldn't lift up the lock thru the shattered window.

I know how you feel. My xD was broken into the same way. They were after my stereo and they took my book bag which had all my school books in it. Luckily they didn't take my iPod. All in all, $3600 worth of damage. They had to repaint my front and rear doors because of the glass that scratched it. They replaced anything that had a knick or a scratch. This included the front passenger side door panel, the painted trim piece with the window switch, the radio, the whole dash, the radio trim piece, and the temperature control trim piece. Glass went everywhere and I learned that these painted trim pieces scratch easily.

I got my windows tinted right after everything was fixed. I went with 15%. Illegal, but cops don't worry about it unless your doing something else stupid. Hopefully it will help deter theft instead of giving people a reason to look in. Alarm will come when I put in some subwoofers.

Not your fault leaving the iPod out. You should be allowed to keep YOUR things where YOU want to. Unfortunately, everyone tries to twist these things into being your fault and not that of the thieves. If you left your door unlocked, the glass probably wouldn't have been broken but then you would have people saying that it's still your fault, you should have locked your door. You can't win. Anyways, hope that it doesn't cost you $3600. Good luck and keep us updated.

Update! Sorta, Ok sorry guys, i have no pics. I was never really in the mood to take pics of it anyways. But yesterday i took my car to Toyota and then they sent me to some Seattle Automotive Bodyshop. I'm somewhat hesitant about this body shop as first they told me if i paid cash my car would be done next day. I mean I'm glad its so quick, but after paint and repairing the door, i'm somewhat skeptical as to the quality of their work.
My deductible through Allstate insurance is 500 dollars, and so I decided to go through insurance because the estimate came out to 770 but not including the interior door trim i want replaced and the window control trim i also would like replaced. I'm very concerned about this body shop however because of course i understand they won't work on the car until they receive approval from my insurance to pay them for their work, but i've been on the phone with my insurance trying to speed up the process, but nothing really has happend they haven't called me back. I also asked to speak to the manager at the body shop to make sure that the interior pieces get replaced, but he has also yet to call me back. So i'm sorta playing the waiting game, but i really don't have much patience for this, just because i know that it is all just paperwork that is holding everything back...
I'll update you guys as soon as i find something else

Good luck with getting it resolved without a hitch. Seriously, and I mean that, not meaning for that to sound like I'm being a smart a--.

dang dude. I'm sorry to hear that your car got broken into. My old integra was broken into at my local mall last year and they stole a whole ton of stuff. I had an alarm but the guy(s) who broke in disabled it and got away with everything. It was kinda my fault since I left my GPS mounted to the windshield but it sucks bad, I know how you feel. I hope everything works out well for you.

If you're not comfortable with that shop, look for another shop honestly. I've been to three different people to have them look at scratches given to me by United, and the last person I felt the most comfortable with. Think of your car like a kid. If you don't feel safe with leaving your "kid" with those particular people, look for a different place.

Another little update, The car is still at the body shop and the insurance adjuster has givin me 1150 for the repairs which will cover repairing the door and replacing the window, and also replacing the interior door molding. The parts have been ordered but will not arrive until the 20th!! so i'll still have to wait until then.
