the 1.8 l is a decent engine, it powered the last generation of toyota celicas didn't it? it also helps keep the lineup balanced in price and purpose. the xd is the entry level with the more affordable fuel effiencent model. now that the xb has a loyal following, make that model something more to aspire to with bigger size, engine and bolder looks. while the tc is hot looking sporty coupe with the cool roof. i for one can't wait for the new tc to come out because it will probably be better. and if it isn't, it will make my car even more desirable.

and remember to welcome next gen xb and xd owners with open arms because they are still our brothers and sisters!

Honestly I love my xa! I'm glad I bought it and i plan on owning it untill toyota comes out with something that I fall in love with like I did with the Xa! which will probably take 4 years or more. But from a marketing stand point the xd will be huge! its a step up from a yaris and a step down from the xb

with the current generation of xa and xb they are almost the same car! Also they Are almost the same price. Thats why the Xa failed. I think the xd has a fighting chance unlike the xa!

I've been waiting for the new xA for nearly a year now, and I agree - it's too much like the xB. I'm sure they had to change the bonnet to accomodate the new engine, but the new design looks like a pig. With a bodykit & wheels it looks pretty spiffy, but frankly what wouldn't? After all is said and done, I've finally decided the new xD bodystyle is horrendous... Look at one next to a Honda Fit and you'll see what I mean: the old xA bodystyle could compete but not this new snub-nose one!

Default Xd is going to kick some butt

Are you kidding me. How could you speak so highly of the XA and completely bash the XD. Doesn't make any sense. Its going to faster than the XA, it has Dual VVTI, still retains most of the shape of the XA, and I think it looks ten times better than the XA. Wait for the body kits to come out on this one. Scions whole philosophy is to keep the brand fresh and brand new to the market . Duh thats why they've been so sucsessful in the past 3 years. Who wants to buy a 5 year old body style, when they can keep changing and improving the design. I think we should embrace the new design and watch the scion brand grow like never before.

The xA looks like a girly car compared to the muscular looking xD. The xA's shapely lines have a very feminine appearance.

I've seen many body kits for the xA (Kenstyle, etc.), and the FiveAxis kit on the xD makes it look better than any xA with a body kit.

And another thing. The xA was not a successful car! It was supposed to be the more popular car in the Scion lineup, but ended up being the least popular. I have read too many articles by auto industry journalists who branded the xA as anything but a success.

i think the car is going to be a solid seller for scion, should be interesting to see if it catches on with the aftermarket though :D

I love the xA. I don't mind the xD. I like the idea of a larger engine but dont like the drop in mileage. The xD does look a bit like a Yaris 4-Dr but it does have it own thing going on. I would have liked to see a 3rd gen. xA but it just wasn't selling. That makes us xA owners that much more unique! Yay us!

I don't understand why so many folks are defending the xD by bashing the xA. I have my own wish list for the xA. 6-speed manual, sunroof, leather interior, cruise control... Other than that... subjectively? I think the xD looks too much like a compromise. Like how the xB was targeted to the young'uns and you see a lot of grey hairs behind the steering wheels. I think the xD is going to appeal to the older set, as well.

Something about the xA made me buy it, in spite of my dislike of the xB style. I wouldn't own an xB or a tC. There was just something about the xA.

Washed it again this morning on the way into the office.

...and what's with the guages? I love the center cluster!? Is there that many people who don't/didn't like the setup on the xA? And if so, why bring it to the new xB? Well... yes the new ones on the xB are not even close to the xA's but....... it's still in the center?

From a financial standpoint, dumping the center gauges probably made sense. I got used to them in no time and think it is easier to read the center gauges than standard gauges. I think it is a better design.

However, I've seen alot of people who don't own Scions but were in the market for similar cars who complain about the center guages. They won't give it a chance and won't buy the car because of the center gauges.

There are people who won't buy the car if it has center gauges. I doubt there are that many people who would buy the car just because of the center gauges (although there are obviously people who love the center setup).

Anyway, it sucks but it is tough to get people to try something different, even if it is better. People are just use to the old setup. It probably won't be changing anytime soon.

I just baught an Xa

Ok, the Xd has some nice feature such as more horsepower and side curtain airbags.

The Major Downfalls.

1. It looks like an old Hyndai
2. Worse Gas Milage
3. Smaller Gas tank
4. No nice curves like the Xa has
5. The interrior of the Xa is nicer.

Are any of these 5 points incorrect ??????

I just don't think its sporty looking. The snub nose makes it look pretty ugly, even with the body kit. The xA really defined what a sporty looking hatchback should look like, IMO. And now that it's finally catching on with the Fits selling out left and right while looking worse, Scion goes and discontinues the xA. Strange world.

I like it. The size is still a little smaller then I need, just very good for someone looking for a small size car. Also with the 1ZZ-FE engine stock... There could be a chance at a 2ZZ-FE 6spd gt styled release in the future for the xD or people just doing a engine swap..

As for gas milage...

2006 Corolla 1ZZ-FE = 32/41 5spd
2006 Corolla 2ZZ-FE = 26/34 6spd
2006 xA 1NZ-FE = 32/37 5spd

So if the xD has about the weight of a rolla.. It would be sound to say it should get better milage then current xA's
