Default Independent rear for xD?

I have a question for you all. With all the cross-swapping of Toyota/Scion cars, has anyone tried, or know if the IRS from the Matrix or Corolla would work? I know that only the XRS models have IRS, BUT it's that fact that gives me hope. I assume there'd be some fabbing...

Way too different, I am sure. On the mk4 Golf, it was possible to upgrade to IRS, but it involved a lot of cutting and welding from an r32. I believe the AWD version of the xD has IRS, but there are many differences, for instance, the rear seats no longer fold flat due to the floor pan differences.

hey, Mcbrew,
thanks for the reply. i'm kinda figuring that the space-saving qualities of torsion beam rear suspensions are what makes our cars have so much room in the back seat area. i'm hoping against hope that something could work. my previous car was a '94 civic sedan with Skunk2 coilovers, strut bars, etc. and really loved the wickedness of its handling. even though i know i'm probably S.O.L., i'm gonna try.
b.t.w., your xD looks great in red.
