205/55R16 is a very common size and works great on an xD...I'm running a set of Pirelli P4s on my brand new xD in this size. I ran the numbers through a tire calculator, which gave only a 1.3% difference in size/speedometer reading between the two sizes.

If you're looking for a set of good all purpose tires, give the P4s a look. Mine were left over when my '04 Vibe got wrecked, but I was able to put them on my xD, Vibe rims and all. Very highly rated, reasonably priced, and so far superior to the garbage Bridgestones that came with the xD that it's not funny.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the help. I will look into those. My XD came with Dunlops which are impossible to find. Have had to replace 2 and the 1st time had to bully the dealer into selling me one off a new XD. It had only 4000 on it

No problem. I really don't understand why Toyota opted to use an oddball tire size for the xD (and to have such lousy tires made in this size). Maybe it was to generate tire sales for dealerships, or maybe the thinner tires improve fuel economy or something.

I think Toyota did it for the fuel economy reason stated above. But getting a 205/55R16 shouldn't hurt you at all if you get a nice "energy efficient" tire. I bought a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S and I run them at 36 psi with the nitrogen inflation that Costco uses and I have actually seen my MPG increase by 1-1.5
The downside is that you really feel it when going over speed bumps but the steering feels more responsive, so does handling because they are wider and the car feels really nice in the rain, whereas my old bridgestones didn't do any of that. The Michelin Primacy MXV4 and Pilot Exalto A/S are very nice, the P4's I had on an old 99 318i and they didn't wear or handle very well. I hear good things about the Goodyear Assurance tires so you may want to give them a thought.
