This is why I've given up on expensive rims. The most expensive custom rims I had were $450 each on a 2004 Volvo S40. Just like you, I hit a giant pot hole going 45-50mph and damaged one rim so bad that it had to be replaced.

The other rim that was damaged was able to be repaired by a local "wheel doctor" ... I don't know what he did but the rim that had minor damage looked as good as new in one afternoon.

My most recent set of rims were $80 each and my new 08 xB is just getting "disc" style stainless steel hubcaps ($80 for all four). I guess that's what happens when you're in your 30s, married and have children.

I had a similar thing happen to me when i had rims on my truck. I got the county that the hole was in to pay for the damage to my rim and to my tire. Here is what i did. I took pictures of the wheel, the hole, the street signs and i took it to the d.o.t in the county that the hole was in and asked to file a damage claim. When and if you go to their office make sure you have all your pictures organized into something like a three binder and have estimates on the cost of a new wheel. Sometimes this is a shot in the dark but hey it never hurts to try.
Sorry about your misfortune,
Anthony

In most states, this only works if the pot hole was previously reported (meaning the county knew about it and didn't fix it ... meaning they are liable for damages). But, like you said, it's worth a shot to see if the county will pay for it.

When I had my $450 rim damage it wasn't covered by the county because they claimed I was the first person to report the pot hole.

There are many places that can repair rims. I have had ones very badly dented and they were fixed to new condition. You need to do a search locally. Good Luck!

Here in Chicago, we have plenty of potholes and bad train tracks. This is why I'm debating about downsizing to some 17" wheels. I just can't take the damn bumps anymore...

drive more carefully guys.

i ride at almost 4 unch drop so i have to be carefull.

I think a lot of peeps just drive haphazardly and then get rims and cars messed up by road hazards.

i would run fairly high pressure in those so the tire sidewall doesn't give as easily and keep the rim from contacting the pavement

What size tires are you runing. My last xb had 19's with 215/35 19's and that was a joke every time I hit a bridge end my heart would stop. Im fixna do 17's on my new one and if you wanna keep your rims nice be careful and check your tire pressure every 2 weeks if not sooner.

That was prolly your first mistake. You should keep like 32-33 psi in tires that low. Keep them checked weekly. Sorry you got F'd up but it only takes a second of inattention to the road and boom there goes a wheel.
Hope it all works out for ya man!
