After many years I would think many have thoroughly tested out the MAX tire sizes that will fit (minor rubbing ok) on the xB at different rim sizes.

I also saw that matchbox had posted that his tire/wheel combo was 15% larger than stock!

So, is he correct? Can the xB really accept a 27.5'' diameter tire?

My rim is 17X7 and I want to put literally the largest diameter I can on it. I'm Looking at 205/55-17 (9% over stock) or 215/55-17 (10.8% over stock) or 215/60-17 (14.4% over stock).

Someone who knows whether any of those tires will physically fit, please post.

Please don't post if you have not tried it and just want to flame this idea and say stuff like it will throw off the ODO and Speedo or kill acceleration, etc....

 

ive herd a 215 55 was the biggest but why would you want to? i mean 45 series is a smooth ride already

 

did you try one of those "tire calculators"? they have one on discounttire.com under "info" it has helped me out a few times...

 

max size depends on stock suspension vs lowering springs and what offset your rims have! with my tein s-techs, I had to cut a small portion of my inner fender well away to prevent rubbing when turning my 245-15zr17s with 40mm offset rims

 

I had some 215/45/17's and they were right at the limit of rubbing the sideskirt in the front of the rear wheelwell. I could barely put a pinky between the tread and the skirt.
Why would someone want to go larger than that? It will also play hell with the gearing and speedo readings. IMHO.

 

A larger diameter tire effectively lengthens the gear ratios for less torque but also much lower rpm's at high speeds; which means if you do mostly highway driving you can increase MPG and reduce engine noise.

So far we have a rumor that a 215/55-17 may fit so can anyone corroborate or deny this?

 

I've been running 17X7s with 215/45/17 Yokohama Avid H4s. Not your most agressive tire but very smooth with a bit of stick for the corners. I have been running this set up for over 2 years at STOCK height without any rubbing or other clearance problems. Hope this helps.

 

2 problems with your post. Sure it lowers engine rpms at hwy. speeds. It also causes it to downshift more quickly as it tries to maintain speed up hills. Basically moves the engine out of it's powerband and lugs the engine thus lowering mpgs. This is not a good thing. I did this on a Jeep and it basically made overdrive useless.
I just explained that 215/45/17 was so close to rubbing that anything larger would cause problems. So how would 215/55 even bolt on??? You'd drop the jack and jam the tire into the body work. It might make it's own clearance by force.

 

That size also worked for me till I added the OTG spacers, Monroe shocks and Hotchkis springs. The outter edge of the tires would catch the inner front lip of the rear wheelwells over hard bumps and dips. The shocks were allowing too much compression.

 

i'm running 18" sport max 006's with 225/40/18 tires and dont really have any rubbing problems. i use my box for work and even with alot of weight in the back i still dont rub. the only time i rub is when i'm turning full lock and hit a dip or something.

 

215/35/18'shere got spacers..and dont have any rubs...even lowered 2inches

 

215/45-17 on 17x7 with 1 1/2" drop with minor rubbing in tight turns.
