Alignment issue due to lowering springs
I just lowered my XA using Eibach Sportlines. I took it to a shop to have it aligned and they said that the front is in range without work needed but the back toe is out. They said that they have no way of fixing it because there are no products out there to do so. Is there anything I can do? Do you think a Toyota or Scion dealer would no what to do about it. I am going to take the car to the dealer today but any help would be appreciated.
a week after I lowered my xB I had the VSC ABS lights come on. Make sure you take it to the dealer or someone who does 4 wheel alignments, before you have problems. The toyota/scion dealership charged me 80 or 90 bucks to get me back on tha road. Hope this helps. btw my car is running on df210s 2.2" front 2" back
The springs did not change the rear toe-in. The only thing that can change the rear toe-in is a bent rear spindle or axle beam. The rear axle beam and spindles are one big solid welded and bolted piece. There are no camber or toe-in adjustments available in stock form. People add camber by shimming the spindles where they bolt to the beam with wedge shaped shims. I suppose it might be possible to change toe-in the same way, however if your rear toe-in is really out of spec you should find and change the damaged part. Get another shop to check the alignment....tell them you have been told the rear toe in is out of spec....see if they get the same result. If they do then you are looking for something bent or defective as far as the spindles or rear beam are concerned.
Just put my DF210's on this morning ... did the alignment check for piece of mind. the computer said the front toe was out. A few turns of the wrench and it was "in". The rear was in alignment. I drove it home from the shop ... it drove perfect. I was amazed that I could not hardly tell it had been lowered because the ride was perfect !!! Cost to me: $20.00 (spring install and alignment) ... my buddy works as a mechanic at the shop. Lucky for me !
Ted, you can see a bit of toe change when you lower the rear. The xB has an acceptable range of camber from the factory. When you drop the rear the axle beam rotates and some of that camber becomes toe. I know this, because I had the problem with my wife's xB. It wasn't out of spec bad, but it was enough to be out of spec.
I have since ordered two sets of Ingalls adjustable rear camber shims. One for her car, and one for my car once I bag it. The part number from Ingalls is 32400.
I would order from Summit if I had to do it again. I ordered one set from Summit and one from Sport Compact Only. Both took a while to get here, but SCO took longer and they never gave me an update. Summit kept me updated.
