Default No one rocks the aftermarket shocks with your drop?

That rhymed heh...

I searched through the site. and see that everyone is just throwing the drop springs on without any aftermarket shocks.. I see TRD is only company that makes the shocks anywayz.. and to go with the 1 inch drops springs... I had H and R springs (1.4 inch drop) on my 2000 mirage, on stock struts and it rode mint.. but all the peeps with the 2.1 inch drop (tanabe) still running on stock shocks?? or you have the TRD shocks to make it a little better on the shocks... cause i would think that big of a drop is gonna wear them out alot quicker.. but i see everyone says they ride well.. just wondering if that was on stock shocks or what not... and what would happen in the long run... THANKS!!!

trd shocks are not SHORT-STROKED.
they will work great with trd springs
but not worth the money.

for the same amount of money u spend on trd shocks,
u can spend on another company that releases a shorten
stroke one.

shortened stroke will give your shocks a shorter travel.
which is whats needed in lowering springs application.
when people... "BLOW THEIR SHOCKS" cuz they lowered their
car, is when the shock doesn't have enuff travel space(not shortened stroke)
and the car bottoms out.. or just hits too many bumps.

ah ok, yea i saw you mention about the shorter stroke... i dont know too much about struts/shocks but still learning...... so basically the thing to do is put the 2.1 inch drop springs on.. and just wait till the shorter stroke shocks come out, and put those on??

Just a suggestion adding the Struts with the Springs saves in labor cost as you are doing the install once not twice.

So, are there any companies out there that offer shorter stroke shocks, for a reasonable price? I saw scioned.com offers Spy's 2"dropped springs & shocks combo., but with the price they're offering ($749), you're better off saving up for coilovers!

yea thats my theory, but most have done it them selves so it wouldnt matter if got the springs on, then the struts at a later time...

hey scionracerxb, you want to enlighten them on your vast knowledge of lowering scions? some people think that springs is all you need, but i will tell you that changing out your struts and shocks to performance ones is a good idea when changing to lowering springs, also do an alignment as soon as you lower it and put the shocks and struts on, anytime you mess with the suspension (esspecially taking it apart ) you need to realign your car(nobody is that good to put all the suspension back together the same EXACT way it was, you alignment will be off, a little or a lot, doesn't matter) BTW just kidding scionracerxb, i just wanted to pull at you a little because of this topic.

o.k. here is the deal me and scionracerxb had an arguement about lowering on another forum, he and a bunch of his club mates lowered their scions with just lowering springs, he said that is all you need to do, i told him no way you are going to ruin you ride like that, well it turns out that the scion xb was made with really good shocks and struts to handle a 2.0 in drop. at least that is what i am told( i still don't believe it , but can 60 scion owners from team scion west be wrong? well they have NOT had any suspension problems as of yet ,so i say more power to them and good job, but I won't lower my scion with out adding performance shocks and struts(just to be safe)

Default shocks

jsut an update to all you people, tokico has released shocks for the xA =) My friend works there and they r workin on the xB set now. Also, lowering your car with just springs or using spring/shock combo or getting coilovers is ur preference. If you just want it for a daily driver just springs is fine. My rav4 had eibachs on it for 3.5 yrs and the shocks never blew. Toyota does make fine quality shocks. its all on ur preference..if your going to build a showcar or like to haul ___, get coilovers, its a very worthwhile investment.

I think a lot of it has to do with performance. An aftermarket shock is, most likely, going to be more agressively valved to handle a lowering spring thus making the handling more responsive. I had H&R springs on my Civic without aftermarket shocks. The ride would get a big bouncy on rough roads, and cornering was better than stock, but the front end would start to bounce under hard cornering. When I put my less-than-agressive Tokico HPs (blues) on, all that went away. I wanted something good for daily driving, and the HPs work well for me.

So replacing the shock in combination with the spring will help overall handling on any car.
