Default largest tire on a 17" wheel

I have 4 205/40/17's on my XA with stock springs and struts.

I need new tires.

Whats the largest tire i can use?

I believe 215/45/17 are roughly the same overall size as the stock 185/60/15...

Can i go larger without rubbing? I'm looking for comfort and to fill the wheel well a bit (the 205/40/17 look kinda small)

what about a 205/55/17? or 215/60/17?

i dont know much about tires...?

Thanks

215/45/17 is larger than stock diameter

205/40/17 is undersized

for oem diameter 17's you want

205/45/17 OR 215/40/17

you should be able to easily run 215/45/17 if you aren't slammed

if you want comfort go with 16's theyre bigger than stock , have a decent selection and the tires are MUCH cheaper and will ride much better than any lo pro 17 will

I would not try going any larger than 215/45s.

Is there more clearance in the back...?

What are the complications if i put larger tires in the back.

see, i inherited the rims and tires from a friend. The fronts have maybe 5000 miles on them and in great shape but the backs are pretty bad.

I was gonna replace all four with the same 205/40/17 rather than just the two rears.

I have read that some people have bigger tires in the back?

Thanks

you can but its gonna look really out of place. The back end is going to look jacked up while the front end is going to be kissing the ground.

215.45.17 is a little large, if you don't mind modifying you should be able to get them to fit. You're speedo will be off a little though. As stated above ideal would be a 205.45.17 or a 215.40.17

When I had my xA, I was dropped on Tanabe DF210's with 17x7 ET 42 wheels and I ran 215/45R17 with no issues at all. The ride was comfortable in my opinion, but 16's will be much smoother of a ride.

I had 205/45's and they rode great much better than the 40 series.
