vrd rubber cracking fixes
So I have installed a set of vrd fogs and put 10k hids in them and they look great but all of a sudden condensation came into them so I looked at the back of them and the rubber boot is cracked all over prob from the heat.... Well I am being sent new ones, does anyone know how to prolong the life of these boots, I have heard some were to use greese all over them any other ideas or is greeese bad for them??
Seems that the quality of rubber for the boot on APT/VRD fogs is not exactly top grade. If you get your new ones I was thinking silicone spray to prevent them from drying out, or v-belt treatment spray. I don't think it was the heat from HID's since a 55 watt H3 bulb puts out more heat than HID.
sure, take those dim 10k hids out and put some scented candles so you can see better in the fog. but he says they're for show, good luck with the cops and blue lights in NJ. if you want to use them for what they're for, put some stock/yellow bulbs in there to see better in the fog.
Silicone spray.
RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone
V-belt treatment (sometimes called "anti-squeal")
Even Armor All brand rubber protectant (contains silicone) would work.
What your looking for is something with a silicone base as it will "weather seal" the rubber from dry rot and cracking.
