Default Help with Steering wheel controls

I have a Release Series 6 xB with the navigation, but whenever i want to go to the next preset and hit the next button on the steering wheel it just changes to the next station. Example: I hit the button and it would go from 94.5 to 94.7 instead of going say from preset 1 to preset 2. What can i do to make it scroll through the presets?

Do you know if your car is using a PAC SWI-PS controller somewhere?

You can probably re-program it to use presets instead.

All your other functions like "mode" works right?

If you are using the pac swi-ps you can reprogram it to use the preset up and down verses the track up and down as it says in the instructions, but it may interface with like cd track or ipod track up and down... not real sure how that would work... I will find out for sure when my pac module comes in
here is the link to their website that tells you how to program the pac as well as instructions on installation

Take it to the dealer and tell them they need to fix it.

When I saw the Pioneer Navi I thought about how they would probably screw up the steering wheel controls. The whole reason i dumped my D3 was because I didn't want to deal with having to figure out how to program the PAC-SWI which is probably what they are using.

the programing is really basic.. if you click on that link I provided above, you can read how to program it. I takes about a whole 5 min to program..
The dealer installs the pac...? really...? how much??

I have the PAC SWI-PS installed in my car, but my "mode" doesn't work.

Does anyone have a "mode" that DOES work with a pac controller?

way ahead of you.

i have searched through the manual and now have talked to the dealer and they guy told us that its just the way it was made. he doesnt think that its a very good design. I dont really want to reprogram it since even though i am mechanically inclined i really dont want to take the time. I guess ill just deal with it.

^^if you read the program instructions I provided earlier you will see it should take a whole 5 minutes and I believe it should work with the presets instead of scanning channels if you use the "preset/disc up and the preset/disc down' instead of the "track up and track down" but dont quote me on that... it may be worth a try IMO
and to answer your question megamanx I would say it kinda sounds like a programing issue as well. did you install the pac yourself or did somebody else? has it ever worked?

I installed it myself, and the pac does not even recognize my "mode" button being pressed at all.

I'm thinking I need to add a 560 Ohm resistor or something.

This is a thread I looked at, but its really old. One guy has the same problem as me, were every button is recognized but "mode", and another guy say it works for him.

did you add the 150 ohm resistor? I believe you only need the 560 ohm resistor if you have like a mute button or something to do with factory bluetooth or the factory navi

if you are just talking about the programming i can do that, but where is the swi-ps that its talking about to press the button for programming? And if i mess everything up what can i do then?

^^I have no clue where they located the actual box, but I would say that its probably zip tied to the metal brace behind that radio because there is a good amount of room back there... how good are you with reading directions and following them? have you ever built a little plastic model car?

yea, I already added the 150 ohm resistor in my initial install. I'm thinking I just needed to bump up the resistor. What exactly does the resistor do when its connected to the white interface wire?

We are talking about the RS6, which comes with a Pioneer navigation system. They had to have installed some kind of interface to make the steering wheel controls work.

well when you hit a steering wheel button, it sends a pulse through those wires that the pac connects too.. when it goes threw the resistor, it changes the resistance so the pac can recognize the button/buttons being hit. its kinda complicated to explain if you dont understand resistors and resistances...
andreyco to answer that the only thing I can think of is taking out that factory deck and see whats back there. The dealer shouldnt have to install an interface for the factory navi cause the navi and the steering wheel controls work off a harness that plugs into that deck..... that plug should be behind that radio cavity no matter what deck you 08 or 09 xb came with I would imagine. If I am wrong somebody correct me but I would imagine the dealer doesnt install anything like the pac for their stock decks even with navi....

You're missing the point buddy. It's NOT a factory stereo he's talking about! It's the same stereo I could go buy at any car audio shop right now. It needs an interface.

ok, so what I'm thinking if I understand resistors (probably not)

according to this

Connect pin 6 wire to ground. Connect pin 7 to the INTERFACE's White wire. Connect one end of a 150 ohm resistor to pin 8, then connect the other end of the resistor to the INTERFACE's white wire. So basically you will have two wires, one with a resistor in series, connected to the INTERFACE's White wire. If the vehicle has Phone options on the steering wheel and you want to use them to control the radio, please use a 560 ohm resistor instead of the 150 ohm resistor indicated. Map/Info button is not used.
the resistor that goes to the white interface wire....also goes to pin 8. I suspect pin 8 is the "mode" button. I have the 150ohm resistor, and when I press it, the pac doesn't even acknowledge i'm pressing it.

So I think i need a bigger resistor like the 560 ohm resistor instead.

anyways, this is the RS6 "factory" installation:

and here's my install on my RS5

Ok so when I put my pac steering wheel control module in yesterday I found out you can program the module to change the presets, but if you have sirius, xm, an ipod, a cd or any other external device on the aftermaket deck, the pac will not change the tracks cause it needs to see a track up/down button... so either you can change your presets or change your tracks on the dics, ipod etc!!!

megaman?! you need two seperate wires coming off that white wire from the interface, one with the resistor and the other without the resistor. the one with the 150ohm resistor goes to pin 8 and the white wire WITHOUT the resistor goes to pin seven. do you know what I mean? also I noticed my mode button lights up orange when I turn on my parking lights now check to see if yours does as well. if not the your completely missing one wire.
