Default Can you use 5w-30 dino oil in the xB2?

I don't have an xB2, but I'm thinking of getting one.

I have a lot of dino 5w-30 oil in my garage. I was wondering if I'd be able to use it in the xB2. I ran it with the 1st gen xB and never had any issues.

I live in SoCal btw, where it never gets too hot or too cold.

Thanks in advance.

Should be just fine, most 30 weight oils shear to a 20 weight anyway.

Doesnt the manual only say 0w-20 and 5w-20? If so, I would not use it. Theese newer engines and built to tighter tolerances and don't need/use 5w-30 for a reason. The "most 30 oils shear anyways" comment is broad and untrue.

I would go to bobistheoilguy and put up a post referencing this particular engine and see what the experts say.

I just checked the manual, and 5w-30 is not mentioned, so I may avoid it. My Sonata on the other hand says 5w-20 OR 5w30.

Is there a manual I can download online, or read online?

I did some reading, you are ok with 5w-30 in the 2.4L, especially in the summer. It'd be better to stick with 20w in the winter.

edit: I see you are in CA, so you might not really have a winter

Thanks for looking that up, that's what I thought.

Good thing we have the best weather here in SoCal

I suppose you can but do you buy a car based on its compatabilty with some oil you have in your garage? I wouldn't base an $18,000 purchase on a couple of cases of oil.

LOL that's what many people on bobistheoilguy say about 5w-30 (and it shows on UOAs)!

The 2az-fe engine is old and just a few years ago spec'd 5w-30, using it will not harm anything. I've used 10w-40 for 70k and 150k miles on other vehicles since new that spec'd 5w-20 and they run just fine.

I may not even have to worry about it.

My local Scion dealer throws in free oil changes and carwashes for the life of the car as long as you own it.

DIY, trust me on this. You're going to end up with a blown motor due to the oil filter not being put on properly (or the drain bolt) and swirl marks/spider webbs in your paint.

Little bit of a stretch there, dont ya think?

no matter WHO changes your oil, yourself included, you should always check the level a few hours later.

Seen it happen plenty of times. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Spending less than $20 for a jug of oil and a filter every 5k miles and an additional $20 for a bottle of car wash soap, sponge and drying towel that will last for months is mos def worth it.

I can see not letting them wash it, but I've seen good mechanics pull one oil filter off and put the other on, while leaving the first o-ring on and causing a leak.

Like I said, regardless of who does it, you best be in the habit of checking level and for leaks when you get it home.

I always wash my cars myself. I hate swirl marks.

If anything, I'll just let them do the oil change since it's free anyway.
