Default Rim & Tire Combo HELP!

alright im finally geting some wheels for my RS 2.0 but everytime i have gotten prices for the wheels i want they tell me different tire combo's. Such as: 205/40/17, 205/45/17, 215/40/17, 215/45/17. The Wheels i want are Motegi FF7's. I looked on their site and it says 17X7 4X100 +42 Offset. what tire would i need to go with without having to buy anything else. i just want some rims & tires! lol

I am running 17's with 205/40/17's. 205 is the width, 40 is the height and 17 is the wheel size. If you want the tire to be close to flush with the rim than run these, the 215's will stick out a little more and the 45's will be a little taller. I am running the Nitto Neo Gens and they handle excellent!

hey is your offset on your wheels +42 also? i have heard diff. things about needing to buy spacers. i dont want to have to buy anything but the wheels and tires so what i believe your saying is if i go with 205/40/17 i will be fine? what about 205/45/17? will the tire just be a little taller? also is it best to stay close to stock so that my speedo wont be out of wack?

The Sticky: Wheel Fitment gives 17x7ET45 with 215/45/17 as stock. Your ET42 is close enough to stock that will have no problem with the 215s. A resent thread discussed 215/45 vs 215/40 and most posts came down on the side of the 215/40. I'd go with which ever one I liked best from a price, appearance or company bias point of view.

215-40's are the closest to stock diameter. It's what I put on mine. Most mail order wheel and tire specials specify 205's but they are a little shorter than stock.

This is from Whalen Tire's website:
SHOP FOR TIRES
Please select a size
STOCK TIRE SIZE: 185/60R15

Recommended Plus Sizes

PLUS 2 SIZE(S)
Require 17 inch wheels
215/40R17 0.03 Inches taller than stock tire

205/40R17 0.28 Inches shorter than stock tire

205/45R17 0.52 Inches taller than stock tire

Hope this helps!!!

My wheels are 17" X 7" with a +42 offset. Tires are 215.40.17. There are no rubbing or fitment issues, but I do have onetongarage.com 10mm rear spacers installed. Front is stock with no problem.
