Default Strut or CV-J blown?

So they put in those speed humps on the road to my house, but they have yet to paint those white stripes on them. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of this new development as I haven't been home for a week, and ended up slamming into one (about 25...). I'm on DF210's, and anyone else that is can vouch for the horrible thump and other noises that accompany such speed. Anyhow, the results - whenever I hit a bump or road imperfection at speeds over 20mph, and whenever I take sharp-ish left turns at low speeds, there's a thumping noise from the right front wheelwell... During the left turns, it's a soft, rhythmic thump-thump-thump in about 1/2 second intervals. The bumps and imperfections result in a solid WHUMP, also from the right front. Just my luck, my warranty expired about 2 hours before all of this (36k miles).

With the descriptions aside, I'd like some input on what you all think is wrong... Again, I'm on DF210's w/ stock everything else if that means anything. Is my strut or CV-joint blown? Or did I just knock something loose? Ride- and driving-wise nothing has changed from before, it still handles the same and rides the same - just those bumps and turns at those speeds.

If anyone knows what's up, pllleeeeeaaasssee drop a line... I'm tripping out a bit since I have no clue what could be wrong. TIA for any help!

Hmmm, I wanna say strut is toast.

You could easily tear down the left side and find out pretty quickly.

Tear down how? And why the left? It's the right side that's having these symptoms... or do you mean to compare the good, left side to the right?

your strut is gone but with df210 springs the warranty wouldnt have covered the struts anyways. the cv also sounds bad if u hear a clunk or clicking while turning.

Misread, I meant right.

Take wheel off. Take strut out. take spring off. test strut. If you can easily compress it, it is toast. Since everything on the right is out, check the cv joint.

Aight, thanks for the help peeps, I'll be testing it later today. eggie and hotbox, or anybody else - how do I test the cv joint? Just wiggle it and listen for the same clunking?

If you make a slow u-turn to the left, and hearing clicking coming from the right side, you';re CV joints is in need of replacement.

Since you have DF210s, I'd also check to see if the bumpstop is still in one piece or not.

To check the strut, push down on the bumper. It should rebound once w/o making any noises.

I would call the city or whoever placed the speed bumps there and explain your situation and make them pay to have everything replaced.. and take some pics if they havent already painted them yet or put signs up..

Actually, speed bumps are placed on certain streets after a Speed/Traffic Survey has been conducted.

Here's good example.

Say it was raining for a good three weeks, and then its clear. You hit a good size pothole, you blow a tire and bend a rim.

Believe it or not, this is considered a Traffic Collision are the driver is at fault under 22350 CVC, Speed for Conditions.

The driver was traveling to fast to react to the conditions of the road, and the damage would not have occured if the driver was traveling at such speed to adequately react to the conditions.

So, if damage occured from hitting the speed bump, the car was traveling to fast. Some, not all, cities will have the speed bumps painted and or signs posted.

Don't ask me how I know all of this.

So apparently my cv is blown... I called the dealership and was thrilled to learn that it'll be replaced under the 5yr/60k mile warranty... which is exactly why I kept my stock springs after swapping the DF's on :D Now all I need to do is schedule the two days they need to replace it... ugh. Thanks for the help to all that replied, I greatly appreciate it.
